So since the literal day I took delivery of my 2022 Power Wagon that I ordered and tracked through build and shipping, both the speed reflected in Waze/Google Maps/Apple Maps in CarPlay is 5-10 mph at least off from speedometer and usually within 20 mins or so of driving the GPS location goes completely off the rails and shows me off in a field or several blocks away when in the city rendering my CarPlay navigation useless.

The second I disconnect my phone from the truck, the gps speed is dead on with the speedo, and the gps location is accurate.

I’ve now tried 5 different phones, with all the same results. I’ve tried it wired, wireless, connecting before and after vehicle start and every other hack I can find in 3 years online.

I have also at the same time had zero issues with all of these phone working perfectly on CarPlay in our Grand Cherokee, my aftermarket unit in the wrangler, my wife’s new GX550, and countless rental vehicles when traveling for work. Is clearly an issue with my trucks uconnect.

Last week I had it at another dealership once again trying to find resolution. The technician was able to replicate the same thing with his phone connect to CarPlay. Yes! Finally thought we were going to get this fixed….

They opened a “STAR” case who asked them to compare with another same/like vehicle on their lot which did not replicate the issue in my truck. They verified the unconnect software was up to date, verified no issues with any GPS antennas, and yet STAR still advised against any repairs and that this is considered “normal”. This truck has only 19k miles on it, I have Maximum Care Warranty (passed up 36 months in March) and even a documented recorded with @RamCares (2 cases opened) showing this issue being ongoing since July 2022!!

I’m beyond furious. I love my truck, but not RAM so much right now.

The dealership is frustrated as they could see it happening themselves, STAR had them do over a week of diagnostics and testing of various things all to just have “STAR” deny any repairs.

Here’s a pic of the GPS going off the rails literally 30 mins after leaving the dealership last Thursday. Has me on side streets when you can literally see in the pic I am on the freeway with no over/underpasses.

To be fair it could have been all the hills around Houston TX on the 610 loop through it off! (Heavy sarcasm)

Do better RAM!

I have the same problem, It sucks but I’m not going to waste my time or stress about it. Once I noticed it I verified with my OBD II module and car scanner app to make sure I wasn’t crazy. I noticed it once I calibrated my Speedo for 37” tires and my gps was showing 5-10 mph slower than my Speedo. Gave me a slight panic but once I confirmed with the above method I kinda just disregard it now. Happens atleast once a day only when I’m using wireless CarPlay.

If it was only the speed it wouldn’t bother me as much. My problem is the gps locations goes completely nuts and will not correct. I’m talking it can end up being 1000+ ft from my actual location thus making whatever mapping app I am using useless as it thinks I’m on a different street or road.

Phone apps get their GPS info from the phone, not the onboard GPS. When you use an app on AA or Carplay, it's the phone supplying the data.

Probably some kind of interference throwing off your phone GPS.

Where is your phone when this is happening? If it's in the wireless charger, have you tried it out, like (temporarily) on the dash?

actually carplay does leverage vehicle gps. I've looked into this with apple.

over the last 3 years I have tried every option from different phones, wired/wireless, in console phone mount, up on top of radio in that spot, and even with sunroof open and holding the dang thing with clear communication with bright blue sky above 9000 ft elevation in Colorado. It starts out fine, then suddenly takes off and does not recover. It is definitely something with the uConnect interface as every single phone works flawlessly with every app when not connected to this truck.

I have even tried while having my personal phone connected in carplay, then taking my work phone using the same apps, sitting directly beside my personal phone on dash in clear sight of the sky, and work phone (Not connected to truck) is dead on location and speed wise while moving at highway speeds, while the personal phone loses direction and speed. To take it a step futher, I then switched the phones and connected my work phone to the truck and was able to replicate with it then losing accurate location and speed.

there is something with wrong with the interface between the phone and the uconnect and it has done this since day one since before I even put the second tank of fuel in the thing.

A Starcase was opened last week by the dealership (BayWay Ram in Pasedena TX) and although the technician was able to replicate the issue with his phone, the Star Technician, after over a week of requesting further diagnostics, said it was "normal operation" and instructed to not repair. The dealership was very helping and did all they could but Star shut down any repairs/replacement of the unconnect or even any modules. The vehicle has the Maximum Care Warranty.

What happens when you disconnect Bluetooth (which disconnect CarPlay) on the phone and then run a navigation app on the phone?

All phones work perfectly with the navigation apps when disconnected from truck. Speed is accurate, location is spot on at all speeds. It’s actually how I’ve been using Waze for a couple years, basically acting like my truck doesn’t have CarPlay.

The uconnect system in my 2022 Ram has never got it right. Wrong names on streets, forget how I set up the displays, "voice commands" are never under stood. I always have a message in the dash that says "settings are unavailable when in motion". OK, so I stop and set the displays to what I want and click on the save and exit. The save is OK but the message continues to say "settings are unavailable when in motion" and when I park and turn off the truck the uconnect forgets what I just told it.

My Ram sees my home wifi and when I choose it, it asks for the connection password. When I put the password in I get a connection successful message. The I click to update, I get a message that says a wifi connection is required .....

I just use my dash mounted Garmin GPS for navigation and set the dash settings for where I want stuff to be displayed on the dash and heads up display, each time I start the truck, if I want to use those functions for a certain trip. I do not use all of the functions in everyday driving.

I always figured that I must be missing a "save" button somewhere or that the truck thinks it is smarter than me so it does not listen to what I want....lol

I've come up with an work-around for an upcoming trip to CO since I'm getting zero resolution via @RamCares despite my above outlined 3+ year battle with this thing. I suppose STAR authorizing replacement of the unit would keep us out of NASCAR for another year or somehing. Apologies for being snarky, it's just pretty damn frustruting as I love every damn thing about this truck, just not not this ridiculous debacle.

Although my truck has wireless carplay I've added this Carlinkit Wireless Carplay Adapter which lets me toggle between using the phones gps and the vehicles. Sticking with just the phone gps seems to be working here locally for not showing me off the road in the puckerbrush but unfortunately doesn't do well when making a phone call as I get some interference and crackling at times. Having accurate an accurate gps location represented on my uconnect is just a tad more important than chatting it up in San Juan Mountains anyway.

Tou might want to try iOS 26 Public Beta when it comes out. I'm a registered developer and just installed Developer Beta 3. I need a few more days to confirm but it appears some behavior with navigation has improved... specifically the way it displays next turn in the dash is working better. Maybe your issue will also be resolved - it's a long shot but maybe worth a try. The public beta should be available any day now.

Never mind - the bug im referring to is still there. Also, the more I think about it the less it makes sense that an iOS update would help your situation.
