Adding TPMS to a truck that didn't come with it (Chassis Cab, 4500/5500 specifically)

You should be able to add extended stems to the metal TPMS stems. I wouldn't do that with the rubber ones.

I assume if you are talking about 20" tires you are not talking about a dually chassis cab, so take that into consideration with the information in this thread. There is another giant thread about TPMS for the regular trucks.

Has anyone successfully added TPIS or TPMS to a 25 or 26 Ram 5500? I want this feature but I’m being told by my dealer that since only trailer TPMS was available from the factory that I can’t add truck TPIS to the truck.

I would not believe the dealer, they are limited in what Witech will let them do. I don't know the state of AlfaOBD and the 25/26's but if it supports programming the BCM in them I have no reason to think it wouldn't be the same process. Jimmy07 might know, but otherwise you might be blazing a new trail here.

Alpha does not have a way into the 25 and later PCM yet as far as I know. I agree the dealer is not familiar with what I want to do. But it’s available on a 3500 pickup so I can’t believe it can’t be added. But which sensors and or hub would I need? And that’s if the wire harness even supports it in a C&C.

If it's the same as the earlier trucks there is no receiver needed for the truck TPMS/TPIS - the RF Hub that already exists does the work. You just need the sensors and the ability to turn the option on in the BCM. I have the sensors that worked for my 2022 earlier in this thread, they are probably the same but someone with an active Techauthority account could research that for you. Mine's inactive at the moment.

The dealers can't do it because their Ram provided Witech software will only enable options that have corresponding sales codes on your truck's record back at HQ. So they just think it can't be done period.

I would like to believe that, but in looking into this, the 3500s use the 14.5” radio for “trailer tow technology” which has the Trailer TPMS. It has a sales code. As I understand it the new 25 and 26 PCM software requires different RF modules. And since neither TPMS or TiS are available in the 4500/5500 trucks it gives me pause if the 3500 sensors would work or if the TPMS/TIS RF module is installed at all. I guess I could buy MY26 3500 sensors, put them in the tires and hope for the best. Maybe since the trailer TPMS is available via the 112AA camera Kit it comes with the appropriate RF hub.

I also would be

interested in adding to my 2025 5500 and wish a scan tool was available for us

The trailer TPMS and truck TPMS are totally unrelated, at least on the 2022's. The truck TPMS uses the common RF hub that is in all trucks. The Trailer TPMS needs a second hub which goes up in the rear headliner and an additional module at the rear bumper/frame crossmember. The trailer sensors are also different than the truck sensors, they either have a slightly different frequency or different ID codes, I forget which.

Until and unless someone gets AlfaOBD working for the 25/26 trucks it is all moot for adding either truck or trailer TPMS.

FWIW the 2022's didn't come with truck TPMS either, the bean counters deleted it at some point despite it still being in the advertised features. But it can still be added as shown in this thread.

Mine are still proving to be unreliable. They come and go sometimes. I think it has something to do with the DRVM camera as if my truck TPMS is working 100% the camera is having issues, meanwhile if the camera is behaving itself the truck TPMS sensors are on the fritz. Except that makes zero sense as the two should be entirely unrelated...
