Adding to an existing factory order if still in 'D' status.

Has anyone had success with adding a feature to a factory order where a VIN was already given?

I placed my order 11/6 and it is still in 'D' status. A couple weeks ago I asked the sales lady if I could add the Instrument Panel Mounted Auxiliary Switches to the order. Her rely was, "I can put in a request to add, it’s a 50/50 shot, however I must WARN you that changes after submitting an order, if it is accepted, production will re-invoice the entire order and we would not be able to price protection you from any manufacturer price increases." So I told her to leave the order alone so as not to cause any delays or price increasing.

I can see, possibly, that adding to an order might inject some delay to the process, but why the re-voicing and price changes? I just want to add a $145 aux switch assembly.

What they told you is correct. And honestly since it has been so long since your ordered, and you have a vin, and you ate in D status it is very very unlikely it will get approved. If I were you I would cancel and reorder.

People have gotten small items added that only cost a few hundred and ended up paying over a thousand more due to the prices increases.

It sicks but that is just how it works. It will be cheaper, easier, and faster for you to just get aftermarket switches.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep things as they are and try to get the OEM parts after the truck arrives. I hear it's a real pain to try and install the aux switch system after the fact, but it may be worth pursuing. I assume if I cancel and reorder I'll lose the initial $1,000 down payment and need to give another $1,000 down for the new order.

You shouldn't lose the deposit but its up to the dealership. I would ask them for a quote on the same truck and with the switches added to see what the price will be. If prices have already gone up it might not even be worth it. Orders are hit or miss with timeliness anyway. I ordered on 7/19 and my truck was just delivered to the dealership yesterday. Others ordered WAY after me and received theirs over a month+ ago.

You can also ask the dealership for a updated POC and that will show the current MSRP. Co.pare that to the initial one you got when you first placed your order. That will tell you how much the increase if any there will be. I just wouldn't hold my breath on getting an option added this late. Most don't have any luck after just a week or two. If you have to have it you need to cancel and reorder, do aftermarket, and have jimmy (i think thats who is making them on here) make you a custom harness to add after the fact.

Excellent advice! I'll give that a go tomorrow and see where the chips fall. I understand from others that the $145 aux switch option is one of the least expensive best options to get even if one doesn't think they'll ever use it. It seems like later on an extra switch or two can become extremely useful.

BTW, congrats on your new truck arriving!

Aux switches are one of the reasons I sold my 2019 3500 and ordered a 2022 3500 HO. Lots of other reasons obviously, but it was one of top reasons for me personally. Well that and the 50gal tank.

I cancelled my original order, which had been in D status for 5 weeks, and did a reorder with everything the same except I added the IP Aux Switches. I reordered on 12/6 and it went D1 on 12/14 with a build date of 1/10/2022. PLUS, there was no increase in price except the $145 for the aux panel. The whole effort was because I really wanted the aux panel. I am quite happy with MD and how this all went down!

Glad there was no price increase! Not surprised MD was able to get you taken care of. They truly are awesome.

I tried to add trailer tire pressure monitor about 3 days after I told sales person it was finally agreed on what I needed. No go. Asked them to contact regional sales manager as suggested in this form. No again. Not to accommodating I found. Waited almost 5 months. Love my 3500 HO so was worth it.
