Adding camera to Digital Rearview Mirror

I just completed this install on my 44' 5er. about 70 ft total length of rg58. Bought the camera out of the CHML. Crimped my own fakra and tnc connecters.

Moved the bumper connector to the bed as a TNC

Used TNC connectors instead of SMA for a stronger connection due to the lengths.

LOVE IT WORKS GREAT

. It works great when the truck is sitting still but as soon as I start moving I immediately start losing connection. This is likely the connectors but I haven't had the chance to troubleshoot it. The camera and wire will likely not be of value to the next owner of the trailer anyways.
I am having that problem with the OEM cable. Trying to get the dealer to warranty me a replacement and they do not know what to do for me since I installed the cable in the trailer.

I think I have them agreeing that the cable is covered by warranty even though I installed it. But Of course they want to try replacing the connector on the truck and the end of the cable before actually giving me a replacement cable. It is amazing how little they know about this option.

I have been waiting for a month or two now and getting no replacement from the dealer. They claim it is on order. @RamCares is there anything that can be done here? I paid for this feature with my truck and it has never worked correctly. I need a new cable and possibly a new connector on the bumper but the dealer cannot seem to get these parts.

If they are on back order not much you can do but wait. You could possibly ask the parts department to see if a dealer somewhere has some they possibly ordered but never used and see if they are willing to give them up.

I wonder if the splitter would work if you put a coax termination on the inactive port when it’s not in use. Similar to old in house coax wiring. These are small screw on coax caps. There are probably something similar for the RG 58 terminations.

I have been working on mine for quite a while. Never got past the trailer connection not showing the red line of death in the rearview when I would try to switch.

I finally made a short cable (about 3 feet) to test the camera and it worked great. I have a 46 foot wheel and I think total cable length is 70 feet. Could that simply be too long. I am also using a screw in type connection in the bed instead of the plug in Fakra.

Maybe there's a break in the cable. When I did mine I tested the full length before install.

Does anyone know where I can purchase 25 ft of Fakra cable?

I bought this 20 ft cable, but I am about a foot short. I ordered another one in 2 ft length, but I am not sure how it will affect the signal and I would like to avoid too many connections.

Where did you get parts to make your own cable? Can you please share your experience?

I found 25 ft cable. The question is if this cable works with camera. it is RFC195 and not Rg68 as the cable that was suggested by members here.

I succeeded in adding building the camera to connect to the digital rearview mirror. I installed one on my 24' Cargo Trailer with the connection on the bumper and installed a second camera on my 40' 5th Wheel with the connection in the bed next to the factory trailer connection ports. I tried a variety of methods and finally settled on using RG-58 coaxial cable with smb screw connection ends. If you take the
Kind of a zombie thread resurrection here, but I wanted to circle back and thank you for this information! Bob

Question: I have a 2025 Dodge Ram 2500 Rebel with the rearview mirror camera. I'm putting on a camper and want to relocate the mirror camera. I don't want to use the trailer camera that i have. Has anyone found what parts are needed and what all is required?

There are a couple threads on this - not sure if these all have what you need.
