So I was driving around today and stopped I noticed the truck smelled well off, it's still new so I didn't think much of it. Got back in and it was doing an active regen since the truck was sounding well off, checked the gauges and it was doing it. I check the gauge a lot and never seen it rise above 0, I do a lot of freeway driving and country fast roads. Is it normal for a truck to just regen at random like this? 19 with 3200 miles on it. Also side question when I turn it off there is a pumping noise. What is that? sounds like an air compressor from a steam locomotive.

Yes, normal to get periodic regens, even with the gauge at zero. The clickety-clack after shutdown is the DEF pump purging.

Thanks! Yeah I was a bit like ummmm is the gauge sensor broken? :) Oh the learning of a new truck. This is my 1st diesel that is mine out of the Army.

I have the ScanGauge II which I used in my EcoDiesel, but since getting the 2500 CTD I converted all the settings over to the 6.7 codes. I see the soot mass % on the ScanGauge go up to 99-100% , then start a regen and shut off at 50%. The dash DPF gauge shows the soot % at approximately 35% when the regen starts.

Crazy, yeah I’ve never seen my gauge move above 0, I guess since it’s mostly highway and country roads it doesn’t build up so much.
I dunno how I feel about that much swing in the gauges if they are reading form the same data sources with your scangauge.

With the Ecodiesel settings the regen came on at 80% and shut off at 8-9%, so I kinda think the ScanGauge is more accurate.

Meh I just want things to fall off when I go off roading next.... lol will make things a lot easier haha

The one thing I don’t get is if the scangauge is reading from the same sensor and it’s says 100% when the truck says 35%. Something just doesn’t seem right to me. How can two gauges from the same sensor have such a drastically different reading.

From previous posts I've seen its guesstimated algorithms (?) produced by the software for he various items, oil pressure etc. That was a topic discussed on the EcoDiesel site with real oil pressure with a gauge installed, versus the computer shown oil pressure. ???

My gauge has not risen from 0 as well I asked the dealer yesterday when I had it in for state inspection, they said all was working fine. I haven’t seen it rise in 12k miles.
