Okay guy’s I have a 2019 Ram 2500 bighorn crew cab 4X4 with the Cummins Diesel engine. My question is with the low payload capacity on these trucks how many of you are towing a 5th wheel camper without any problems? My payload on the door sticker says 2300 max payload!

What size weight fifth wheel, I say it would need to be a small rig for a 3/4 ton.

Figure 18-20% pin weight.

Add in all your gear, hitch, etc. and you'll quickly be over Payload. You may be under RAWR.

My 32' 12K GVWR 5er is 2200 wet and ready to roll.

I tow a 36’ 5th wheel with my 2500 6.7. Trailer gvwr is 12klbs and pin weight is 2200-2300lbs. With the family in the truck we are just over the trucks Gvwr but we’ll within the axle and tire ratings. The truck pulls and stops just fine. The coil springs are definitely a little soft for my liking when hitting a series of bumps but timberens or airbags would fix that.

Being brand new at this, as in we don't have our Pinnacle 36FBTS at home yet since we were waiting on a new truck to pull it, and it sits 5 hours away in VA waiting for us. Truck is here finally and picking it up next month early. Since I have had all this time to wait I have spent lots of time on YouTube watching videos on everything and anything RV related, including many different RV reviews, tow vehicles, etc. I watched one a few weeks ago, a 2 part series of a Jayco Pinnacle 36FBTS. The couple that own it are full timers, and part 1 was him describing to the interviewer the outside and likes and dislikes. Part 2 was the lady of the house doing the inside, same theme. Yes, long winded and I am getting to the meat of the story, lol. Part one, he was asked about his towing rig. I replayed it 3 times and then called my wife in to confirm my bad ears were not failing me, and she agreed with me. This couple are pulling a heavy 36 FBTS, and I mean heavy as he had every nook and cranny outside stuffed full, with a 2018 F-250. He then described recently driving over some notorious pass in Colorado with no issues. GVWR for that unit is 16500 pounds, and Pin weight at max will be around 3300 pounds using 20%, and he has to be way overloaded. I am squeaking by , I think, with the same unit and a 2021 Ram 3500 CC and long bed with air ride. Dealer was pushing for a Dually, but this thing is my daily driver, don't need the hemorrhoid's from a Dually. I squeak by with a few hundred extra pounds of payload, and have contracted with a company to replace the drum brakes on the trailer with hydraulic ones to make me feel better.

Friend of mine had the same idea until he had to make a panic maneuver and found out being overloaded hurt. Watch the weight it creeps up fast.

I have a similar truck 2500 4x4 diesel. I tow a 36' 5th wheel. The trailer is close to 10k and hitch weight was maybe 1600. I haven't weighed it all. With the family and stuff probably over payload. It tows just fine. I did add airbags and usually have about 40psi in them towing.
