2014 ram cummins that hardly ever regens and is coding nox sensor issues for years!! Should I put a fuel additive in tank to burn off soot or will this just lug up the the cat?

What specific DTC’s is your truck throwing?

P2201 nox sensor , or exhaust system needs maintenance, so then I had to take it in and they’d manually regenerate it. I’ve replaced 3 different sensors and they never fix it so that it would regen on its own. Now at least the Cummins lawsuit has given me 4 more years warranty for the ecr system.

So that’s the upstream nox sensor, has it been replaced? What’s the service history been to repair the problems?

How do you know it hardly ever regens?

NOx sensor deals with SCR not the DPF and regen.

I heard it a few times and it would go on the dash saying it’s doing it just for about 6 mths after I bought it new. After that every year , the exhaust system needs maintenance warning came on and they would manually regen at the dealer.

Yes, I took it into the dealer every year roughly when the warning light came on saying exhaust needs maintenance. The nox sensors have been going off in the last 4 years. Just wondering , will an additive hurt anything to try and clean the dpf etc?

The dash only shows the regen message if there is an issue. Normal regens are not visible on the dash of your 2014, so no regen codes and no dash warnings is a good thing and indicates normal operation of the DPF.

It sounds like your dealer is mixing exhaust components up. The NOx codes have nothing to do with needing a manual regen.

Archoil 6400D is what I would recommend if you want to run a DPF cleaner.

If he has a cel on for a exhaust component will it still regen?

Depends on the code. If it won’t regen due to a code it should also have a DPF code and the dash should warn about a full filter.

I imagine the dealer has done all applicable ecm updates, and if new parts aren’t fixing the issue they should probably start to look at wiring. The large connnector behind the driver front wheel well plastic cover has been an issue with earlier 4th gens in the past. Corrosion has been found in them. May be worth your time to pull it and start checking each pin.
