4900 miles and tire wear!

Just rolled 4900 miles on the truck and noticed that the outside edges of my front tires are both starting to “scallop”. I had a thread months ago about how when buying the truck it seemed the alignment was off. But after taking it to the dealer they said it was spot on. Hmmmmm

I'm sure this goes without saying but solid front axle vehicles require tire rotations more regularly.

What air pressure are you running, and is it the right air pressure for the load chart for your tires and the axle weights?

I feel a slight pull in the steering wheel for every little lengthwise imperfection or crack in the road.....like the truck wants to follow any little rise, dip, or crack. Is that the toe in? It's like it wants to nose dive to the low side.

This is what happened when your upper and lower ball joints are offset like the Ram uses. I can’t remember what the benefit was as it was explained to me long ago. I run 72 psi in the front and rotate at 7500 miles. Transforce HT’s last from 60 to 75k miles running this way. And yes I run them until they hit the DOT limits. Nearly bald at replacement.

Amazing. The "HT" on these tires is reportedly an abbreviation for 'Hardly [any] Traction.' They're not so bad in the summer, when it's dry. They can be downright scary in the rain and especially when the snow flies. They're just marginal tires on very expensive trucks.

First thing I did when I picked up my Truck was to get rid of the Transjunks and replace them with a set of Continental Terrain Contact A/T's. Hugh difference!

I took delivery of my 3500 last week and the tires ride very well now that I got the air pressure lowered. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE AS SOON AS YOU CAN AFTER TAKING DELIVERY. The vehicle was deliver to me with some tires at 100 psi ? ? ?

As of course, I don't see any unusual tread wear yet as I just rolled over 200 miles on the speedo yesterday. However I have noticed the vehicle rides very nice now with no harshness. I drive with a led foot and ended up getting some wheel spin with the dual rear wheels when I punched it on asphalt. I wasn't expecting that! I left 4 black marks for several feet. Very Torquey with the 4:10's. Plan on changing the OEM 235-80-17 for some 255-80-17 Nitto Ridge Graplers, they are about i inch wider and 2 inches taller. I hope this will give me better traction.

Mine is a 3500 with a 6.4L recommended pressures are 70 PSIG front 80 PSIG rear cold. Changing by lowering pressures only made my truck handling and MPG degrade. I went back to stock pressures. Stayed with Stock size tire when I bought another set for winter. General AT2. Tire wear has been even although original tire had excessive rear wear from enjoying the new truck too much.

<<<That photo is Whitecourt, AB in January. I run these tires year round because they are good and cheap. Admittedly, I run NittoTerra Graplers when a majority of our runs are in the northern US during the winte, different snow.

I started going to the Generals after Bandag quit offering the Modified Grippers for pickups. They work very well in North Idaho with 8 inches of slush on the road. Truck stays straight if you hit a patch at highway speed.

General AT2

Kind of a bummer to pay for the 4.10s, then give up half the effective ratio over the 3.73s by going to a two inch taller tire, no?
