What’s the max pin weight?
What gears are you considering?
A 3500 C&C with 4.10’s has a higher GCWR than a 4500 C&C with 4.10’s, but a lower payload.
A 4500 C&C with 4.44’s has a higher GCWR than a 5500 C&C with 4.44’s, but a lower payload.
Peak towing for the C&C trucks is the 5500 with 4.89’s.

I don't know the max pin weight but I do know it'll be maxed out occasionally... as for gears I was considering 4.44 but I'm not sure as half the time I'm going thru central Illinois and the other half thru southern Ohio and west Virginia and I've never driven with anything higher than 4.10

Similar to what @AH64ID mentioned, the biggest thing you'll want to consider is how much pin weight you need at max, and probably go a hair over for the extras that you're surely to add/want. Also consider things like extended fuel tanks, additional spare tires, tie down or recovery equipment, etc. Start with max of what you'll tow then work backwards would be the best recommendation. Even though you're already looking at 4500+ trucks that's the biggest mistake that guys make with these trucks, too many guys get a 2500 when they need a 3500, and so on.

Double deck 40 without a hi-way tractor? Unless it’s a pig/ sheep hauler I don’t know if that’s possible. More trailer info will get a better internet answer.
