looking to upgrade my stock Firestone Transforce tires to Falken Wild peak at4s, will be spending a few months in winter weather and need a better performing tire for the snow. The 35x12.5x20s have the 3ply sidewalls and 12 ply bottom vs the 11.5s on standard sidewall and 8ply bottom. 295/65/20s are also an option (less ply rating on bottoms and sidewalls). Anybody running these ? Just wondering if they will rub on full radius turns. My truck is stock and has auto rear suspension. As far as towing goes, I tow a 17k 5th wheel fairly often.

thanks !

I had 35x12.5r18 Toyo ATii on my previous Ram 2500 and they rubbed slightly on the radius arms at full lock... If anything, the 20's will be a bit more square, since they have less sidewall, which translates into a bit more tread width, so it would rub a bit more...

I have toyo Open country on stock 20" wheels with the same size tire, same width @ 11.8..........They absolutely rub on full turn.

Do you need the clearance to run chains for those winter months? If so I would stick with the stock size, which is already tighter for chains with the 20’s.

Look at load index over ply rating. You need a minimum load index of 125. If the tire has a LI of 125 you’ll be able to carry the weight you’re rated for.

If you’re towing frequently I also would consider sticking with the stock size so you don’t have a negative impact on gearing.

If you’re after a larger tire for looks the 285/65R20 has a nice appearance but doesn’t have quite the reduction in effective gearing that the 35’s will have. It still rubs for some on the stock wheels thou.

On the same line-----I have a 2500 Tradesman. I think the stock wheels are 18X8. Am I correct?
