Keeping the stock 18" wheels I want to get a higher load index all terrain tire as my truck is doing slide-in camper duty and want some extra tire capacity as it is a SWD - I'm not interested in looks - just higher weight capacity.

The stock Firestone tires have a load index of 125 (3640 lbs). It seems that is the max load index for all 275/70R18 tires. Moving up a little in size to a 295/70R18 gets me many options of AT tires with a load index of 129 or 4070lbs. I did find that the 295's are about an inch taller the 275's and will affect the speedometer by about 2mph.

So my question is other than the speedometer error will there be any other issues running the 295's over the stock 275's on the stock wheels? Can the dealer fix the speedometer error? I'm not interested in getting an alphaodb or anything to fix the speedo error myself and will live with the speedo error if necessary.

Thanks,
Bob.

There will be no issues with that size tire. The Dealer won't be able to set your Speedo for tire size change. You might notice a difference in shift points with the increased size though.

G, Thanks for the input - had not considered shift points, but would hope it won't affect too much.

John, how do you like your Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's? That is one of the tires I'm considering as they have a 295/70/R18 with a 129 load index available.
Over the 72-3 years I've been driving trucks, the Falkens are the best AT tires I've ever experienced. Dry, wet, snow, dirt, off-road, pavement and hiways they have excellent traction. Have never tried them in deep or gooey mud, hope not to.

I bought them to try because they are snow rated and I could not chain up my 1500. Travel once a year into Oregon, where snow rated are acceptable in chain up areas. Was so impressed I but them on my 3500 a month after I bought it.

My brothers and I spend a couple of weeks every year hunting and fishing the Eastern Cascades and encounter all kinds of weather. We usually travel the back roads in my brother's 2016 3500 HO Mega. He often tries different tires. One year he had Goodyear Duratracs and declared they were the best. Then he heard about the Falkens and tried them. On dry loggiing roads where the Duratracs would break loose, the Falkens never even hinted of breaking loose. The Duratracs would stop in about 4" of snow, the Falkens were easy going in the snow.

Thanks for the info John! I will put them on my short list if I can source them.
