Hey Guys good evening! I have a few newer Rams but in particular im having some serious Regen issues with my 2022 Ram 5500 6.7 with Aisin Trans.
A little bit of rundown:
Started having issues with regen frequencies back in November. Nothing crazy but i never had any on screen notifications, they were all mainly passive regens due to me hauling a trailer 95% of its time. Found a small rip in the one charge tube next to the clamp. Fixed that but still had noticeable issues. Fwd to January that motor suddenly lost harmonic balancer/crankshaft end. Motor still runs but would need a new crank. (Keep in mind this motor was now removed and swapped out with a 40,000 mile motor)
New motor gets installed:
Turbo came with new motor, new gaskets, EGR components all cleaned and new gaskets installed. Truck runs great. Hook it to one of my trailers and do some local runs, everything seems good. No issues.
Next week decide to take it on a 3hr ride with trailer. 23,000lbs behind me including trailer.
Noticing DPF gauge is filling up, regening more frequently. Tow some more and it seems to be in a state of constant regen. Unhook trailer and drive locally empty and no regen issues. Goes back to Zero or one bar. No issues for a week. Hook a trailer to it and go down the road, Regen issues again.
Take it to dealer and explain situation, everything on truck seems fine, we throw a DPF at it. Also install new pressure sensor(s) on the DPF. Not much difference in what i was experiencing. Regens mainly all day while towing. SCR cat is ruled a potential issue. Luckily i had one from the truck i got the motor out of, put that on with the sensors that came on it - still no change.
Look for boost leaks, exhaust leaks, you name it and we find nothing. I went as far as changing out the EGR valve, cleaned all components, replaced Mass Air Flow, MAP sensor, some other sensor and im still left with this issue which is seeming to get worse.
Every possible thing ive tried to rule out and im still stuck in this boat of Regens. Ive asked for ECM reprogramming/flashing/software updates and everything is “current”. My dealer mechanic is outstanding but we can not come up with a solution. It has to be computer/ECM/ or sensor related. No check engine lights except for the regen frequency.
Truck is maintained religiously every 10k. Get fuel and def from same stop every day in all of our trucks. I keep changing all these parts for “hopefully this is it” and all its getting me is broke. Thank god i have other trucks to keep up with work or i would be screwed.
Has anyone else has this experience after changing out ALL of these components!?? Am i missing anything?
OEM filters used, no glue strips of course. Considering it has a new engine and turbo neither of those components should contribute to my issues.
Any takers?? Lol thanks in advance!!
