Got this the end of July 2021 at the Bend OR dealership because my 01 2500 decided to go deer hunting around midnight on 97 southbound right by the Cow Canyon rest stop.
The 01 had 140k miles on a 24 valve with NV5600. I was sad.
We were on our way to my mom's in Humboldt County CA for a 5 day weekend. I stayed with the truck at the rest stop because it had my trailer behind it and my road box full of tools on the bed along with my big portable air compressor, lots of $$$ that could walk off in a few minutes.
Our boys with their families were in separate cars so they took my wife and youngest daughter to a hotel in Madras. The next day I rented a new Dodge 3500 in Bend from Enterprise and went on down to my mom's. Enterprise had to have it back by Monday night for fire crews coming in for fires so I started looking pretty hard for a replacement Sunday. Found this 5500 on the lot that had everything I wanted but manual transfercase and LED light package. It was in stock and the price was right so I called Sunday afternoon and the sales girl said she would hold it for me until Monday afternoon. Got there and a couple of hours later threw a pallet on the back for my road box and headed to a hotel for the night, and she returned the rental truck too! I had left my trailer at my mom's but as a mobile mechanic leaving the road box with tools was not an option. I have about 15k miles on it in two years and will start a build thread soon.
