Hello all,
I have a 2025 ram 2500 that I am having issues with the trailer lights on one of my trailers (its a 30' travel trailer). The running lights cycle on and off while in operation, one time an error came on saying check trailer brake controllers and something about light errors. After that happened I tried the truck on 3 different trailers and tested the trucks 7 way with a voltmeter and it was dead. The next morning I tried trouble shooting again and the 7 way worked again (maybe needed resetting?) However the issue with the running lights still occurred. Its been extremely foggy here lately so I didn't test drive it to try and recreate the brake error. Thinking its the travel trailer and not my truck I tested the travel trailer with the following vehicles and had no issue: 2016 f150, 2021 f150, 2023 Tahoe, 2007 gmc sierra 1500, 2024 f150, 2024 ram 1500 so the Issue does not seem to be on the travel trailer side.
Reading online there seems to be issues with 2025 (1500 & HD's as far as I can see) with incandescent bulbs and/or submersible taillights like on boat trailers. The theory is they pull more amps and the module thinks its a short and shuts off. However, this trailer has LED lights - I tested it and was only pulling 1.8 amps on the running lights circuit. I do have rear and side view cameras on that circuit and thought maybe that was causing the issue. So I cut those out and tested again - now only pulling 1 amps - yet the problem continues.
Additional things I've tried with no success:
-Hooking up a relay to power the running lights from the 12v constant on the 7way
-testing for back feed voltage (lithium trailer batteries)
-replaced RV duck style 7 way for SAE style
-pushing in all fuses and checking ground on truck
Anyone have any ideas? I have a warranty appointment in two weeks but I'm not hopeful they will be able to recreate the issue.
thanks.
