The Ram brand enters 2025 with an updated 1500 lineup, and a new CEO (Mopar Legend Tim Kuniskis). It has just unveiled the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup, emphasizing increased power, luxury, and advanced technologies. While we have been speculating for years about what changes Ram would make when they updated their Heavy Duty lineup, we now know everything about it, and we think Ram fans will be happy.

The Ram 2500 and 3500 will be available in Regular, Crew, and Mega Cab configurations as in the past. Regular Cab models are available exclusively with an 8-foot bed. In contrast, Crew Cab models will be available with either a 6-foot, 4-inch or an 8-foot bed. Mega Cabs will soldier on with 6-foot, 4 foot beds exclusively.

So new and exciting updates include going BACK to column shifter for 6.4 and going BACK to glow plugs on Cummins?

I'm all for the advancements, and glad they continue to update these trucks, so I'm not meaning to be negative about it, but I didn't hear much that I'd consider game changing. Maybe the Cummins mods are significant, I really don't know.

Less HP on the 6.4, sigh. Pretty light update especially if you take away the Diesel and Transmission update.

Sooo does some lipstick maker a 6 Gen ……5…5.5…4.75? Come on Ram bring out something actually new so we can get the numbers straight. The body stamping moulds must be getting stretched out by now.

It doesn't look like the Power Wagon comes with the wench standard anymore, you have to buy level 1 or level 2.
That shows a disconnect at Ram. That is a key component and should never be an option on the PW. I get it, its easy to add. But its kind of like announcing the PW now comes with IFS and AWD. You just should not go there.

I’m going 5th gen. New motor. New trans. Front end and interior. How far along we going to string this 4.X thing along. It’s not like we’re running out of numbers for the “Generations” and have to be careful as to how many we use…

Until Ram changes the chassis/line codes for the 2500 (DJ) and 3500 (D2) it's just a heavily refreshed 4th gen to me. I would hope in the next few years we will have a new chassis/body, but I also thought that when the 2019's came out.

I’m assuming the HP decrease is due to more emissions crap? Although the column shifter is cool.
No doubt at all. But why would they not try to compete more with this gas engine, especially now with only 2 choices?

and going BACK to glow plugs on Cummins?

The Cummins in a Dodge/Ram as never used glow plugs.

Definitely not a 5th gen, it's another refresh of the 2010 cab.

2007 saw the 6.7 and 68RFE and it wasn't considered a 4th gen.

You are right, my mistake, have 6.5's in my mind. I still look at it as an interesting change, given the grid heater has worked for 35 years.

The video said it was to reduce the WTS time... hmm, always felt like it was way too long and just bypassed it anyways and the CTD always fires up quick. Rigs that I've driven with glow plugs you had to complete the WTS, sometimes twice, to get it to start quickly.

So I'm guessing there won't be much change to the user that bypasses the WTS and maybe a few saved seconds for those who don't.

I'm curious to see if Cummins uses this head in other ISB/QSB applications.

I can't figure out any reason to go back to the column shifter for everything, except maybe to save cost in having fewer parts. The rotary shifter is probably more expensive than the column shifter. What a poor decision though.

The winch hasn't been standard on the base PW since 2023. It was optional/package for '24.

The guys that plow HATE that rotary shifter.

So who makes the official call anyways? I don’t believe Ram denoted them with the generation term.
