The check engine light came on a few weeks ago I have a code reader and it was p2579 showing. I was able to clear it and it stayed gone for a couple weeks. Same code came back few days ago, I cleared it and it stayed gone for a day. Came back again this time both P2579 and P2580.
Truck drives fine but I dont want the check engine light on.
Watching U tube (motor city mechanic) and reading other forums I decide to inspect to the turbocharger speed sensor wiring as rodents have done bad things in the past. all looks ok so I test resistance accross the two pins of the speed sensor. I've got two cheap multimeters both seem to work and both show open circuit. Motot city mechanic says it should be between 600 and 1600 ohms or something like that and open circuit means the sensor is bad. My understanding is that this sensor is just a coil with a magnetic core and works like a guitar pickup and so this makes sense. But I havent been able to verify this information elsewhere.
Genos has a part on the website listed as replacement and it appears from the photo to be an exact replacement, although my sensor says holset on it and genos describes it as a cummins part. It is expensive but nowhere near the ridiculous price that mopar wants.
Im ready to fire the parts cannon, but thought I would post here and ask those more knowledgable than I (a very low bar) if I missed something.
Thanks.
