Ive read a number of threads on regen issues. My 2022 3500 is in the shop for the 3rd time in 15k miles. Diagnosed 1st w/ wrong air filter, 2nd w/bad delta psi sensor, now they say turbo is bad blowing oil into exhaust clogging dpf. Anybody been down this road that can tell me what I may have to look forward to? Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Sorry bout your luck. Don’t have anything to add but I assume it’s being fixed under warranty?

It is under warranty than goodness. The tech tells me he has seen this alot in trucks that were initially delivered w/o PM sensors. Didnt know if anyone else had encountered similar issues.

May want to add your truck to this sheet:

This sheet is a list compiled by @mbarber84
of trucks with regen issues.
Search regens, there is pages upon pages of discussions.

Here’s another good thread:

This is not the experience we’d want our customers to have, K. Our team would like to see what we can do to help. Please private message us with more detail, so we can take a look.

Chris,
What info would you need and is there a link for PM?

Is it the turbocharger itself with bad oil seals pushing oil into the exhaust?

Or…

Is your crankcase oil level over the full mark due to fuel dilution in the oil?….which would then get drawn into the charge air from the turbocharger and the crankcase ventilation system?

Frequent regeneration can cause fuel dilution. As can bad injectors or a leaky HPFP shaft seal

According to the tech the seals are gone in the turbo pushing oil into the exhaust.

At 15k miles, I find that incredibly hard to believe. Certainly not impossible.

Has your truck generated the P2459 code in the past, for frequent regeneration?

What does the oil level look like, and does the oil smell like fuel or look thin?

Still think it might be your ccv system drawing excessive oil through and passing it to the turbo.

This is the third time its been in the shop for frequent regen. First time they said it was the wrong air filter, second time they said it was the delta psi sensor now we are at the turbo issues.

Update, now the dealership says tech found the EGR valve was, in their words "burnt up" and is what caused the turbo to go bad so they had to order that. Wonder what we"ll find made the EGR valve fail.

Well, CEL back on again. This time Im told my DEF was too low,(just over a 1/4 tank when CEL came on) They also claim to have replaced the MAF sensor but it still looks like the factory part to me and part number on repair order not the same. 1000003159.jpg

Maybe they did the MAP instead?

Went back, tech says MAF shouldnt have been on repair order because he decided he didnt need it after all. Blamed it all on low def. Just reset CEL and drove it. I asked him to show me in the manual where letting it get to a 1/4 tank was unacceptable. We havent found that page yet. Then he went to my driving habits, said these trucks designed for commercial transport not really for RV'rs. (Maybe they should update their commercial:) Its still hitting regen every 30-50 miles. I have no doubt CEL will be back on soon. He did say he thought if they would let him change the DPF It would fix the issue.

The garbage that falls out of some peoples mouths...

Ram sells a "commercial transport," It's called a Chassis Cab. Ask him what the difference between the Chassis Cab trucks and Pickups are?

I’ve run my def down to less than 50 mile countdown more than once, the needle pointing at 9:00 and no CEL.
