"A truck's payload capacity refers to the maximum amount of weight you can safely add to a truck's cargo area in addition to its empty weight (or curb weight). Towing capacity, on the other hand, refers to the maximum weight that a truck can tow after factoring in the weight of the truck and any cargo." Readingtruck.com
Getting the deisel will subtract 1000 lbs from this number due to the added weight of the cummins block. Leather seats add weight, etc. Base model tows the most for a 2500. 3500 and deisels go well together and tow more.
Theres also a tow chart pdf with all the different models >
