I'm installing aftermarket air bags on my new 2021 RAM 3500 Limited DRW (loaded) and while under the truck I notice that the inner rear rims are painted black steel rims (like the spare). All other rims are aluminum rims but not the inner rears. WTF ??? Ya spend $80K+ on a truck and they cheap out on two of the six rims? Looking at the Monroney sticker it says 17-inch Steel Spare Wheel, 17-inch x 6.0 Inch Polished Aluminum Wheels, Delete 20" Wheels. ----- So they acknowledge that the spare is steel but state Polished Aluminum Wheels as a separate line item. Is this normal? This is not my first RAM 3500 but it is my first dually. I was shocked.

Any reason (other than obscene cost) not to go purchase two more factory Polished Aluminum rims and replace the steel inners? Has anyone else done this?

Wow! I don't have any information to add but that's a poor way to reduce cost. I'd be pissed too.

aluminum wheels are thicker, you will need longer studs. The bigger issue is that in record time those new aluminum inner wheels are going to look like $hit. Every dually - Ford, GM, RAM - uses steel inner wheels. The inners take a beating.

Its how they all do it even most transports did it for decades and its not the cost its the stud length and the abuse the inner wheels see… you dont want aluminum inners they tend to crack at the stud holes after a while

If OP converts inners to aluminum, pay attention to stud length. That was the point I was making.
