Greetings from NorCal,

A year ago I picked up an OEV (Outdoor Explorer Vehicles) camper on my first Ram, an HO/Aisin 3500 Laramie, after the owner decided it didn’t suit his needs perfectly. Love the truck so far. Our background was two previous 4x4 Ford-based vans, and lots of BMW GS moto camping and touring for me, in western US and Baja. And numerous Toyota trucks way back.

OEV’s build in Alberta was done on a new 2020 cab and chassis and is their “Base Camp Hardwall” model. OEV’s bread and butter is in composite pop-ups with premium outfitting, and this is likely to be the only one like this they do. The previous owner did some towing with it and drove it almost 30k, but didn’t set it up for solo off road travel, so that’s what I’m working on this past year and why it’s still a work in progress. Highlights are Carli 3.25” pintop up front and Deaver custom springs in back with Kings all around, Hydralift motorcycle lift, 720w solar to Lithionics batteries, two “almost” queen beds, indoor and outdoor showers, bathroom, etc. I’ve added some additional molle storage, AEV bumper and 16.5k Warn winch, some cab dog proofing, moto lift upgrades, and water and solar system improvements. On deck next are some lighting upgrades and Extreme Outback air system, and more Carli goodies. This seems like alot for an intro and I’ll maybe have to add a build thread since there’s quite a bit to list. In short, the Ram drives beautifully and I can’t say enough about the refinement of the truck in general after years in older rigs.

Cheers, Eric

That’s gorgeous!!

Is it a C&C or an HO?

Thanks, I’m not sure I understand the question, since I’m no expert to the package availability. It’s a Cummins HO / Aisin and to my understanding was also a cab and chassis shipped to Alberta for the build. It’s certainly possible they scrapped a new bed though. Is that what you meant?

The HO is only available in the pickups and not the C&C trucks, even thou both get the Aisin. You mentioned both, so I was just trying to clarify.

The 3500 C&C trucks also have a different back half of the frame.

Got it, just looked it up. The original build sheet lists an “8 foot cargo box” so I was mistaken. Thank you for the clarification.

Just checked out the OEV site and they make some sweet flatbeds. I didn’t know such a company existed in Red Deer …awesome. :)
