2021 Digital Rearview Mirror Question

I take delivery of my 2021 Ram 3500 MegaCab Limited later this week. I intend to put an ARE Topper on it as I will also add the Aux fuel tank and keep lots of gear for hauling my boats around.

Since the Digital Rearview Mirror has dual cameras on the top of the cab to look in and around the bed, will this system need to be relocated to the rear of the topper or is it now going to not work at all? Has anyone with this system found a workaround for those of us with truck toppers?

I'm thinking if there is no workaround... to extend the harness to the rear of the topper and modify the fiberglass to install the entire rear cab-light/cameras into the topper.

Thoughts?

There have been a handful of threads discussing the same thing in reference to the cargo camera, but I've not seen a solution mentioned in any of them yet, though if/when someone does come up with a solution I think there will be a pretty big following.

I've contemplated picking up one of these that I could modify, but have continually talked myself out of it, as I really just want the form factor and don't need the electronics.

Clearly it wouldn't be plug and play, and would surely require even more modification to accommodate the digital rearview, but may spark some creative thinking.

I am going to run by the Dealer and see if I can buy the plugs for the harness.... at least that way I can try to move the 3rd light assembly to the rear of the truck. Since the rear cab cameras are not used for the surround and only the mirror/bed cargo... moving it should not affect any other performance.

Does your truck have the surround view system? It matters because the connector for the cargo camera is different between a surround view camera system and a non surround view system. Here’s a reply I made to a similar question- https://hdrams.com/forum/index.php?threads/digital-rearview-mirror-with-truck-cap.3187/post-76894
If you have a cargo camera as part of the surround view system, the coax cable will be exactly the same as the digital rear view camera cables.
