I just bought a 2021 Ram 2500 Limited and the oil pressure light came on. It wasn’t reading anything at all but the engine wasn’t knocking or acting like it was starving for oil. I pulled over and tried to check the oil but there’s no dipstick. I read online that you can check the level in the instrument cluster but mine only has the oil pressure, which wasn’t reading at all. Very uneasy feeling when you realize that a fully loaded truck that even has turning headlights, has absolutely no way of checking the most vital fluid in it. I called the dealership but they told me that a dipstick can’t be added to these engines. Doesn’t make sense if some have them and some don’t. I can’t find any information online about it and hopefully someone here can help. Is there a way to add a dipstick and if not, how can I get the instrument cluster to tell me how much oil is in this. I’m out of state working and I bought this truck because my hemi ate a lifter. I really don’t want this truck one doing the same because of lack of oil.

Not sure what dealership you talked to but that is completely false. The dipstick is on top of the motor to the right of the valve cover, you should clearly see it. If there is no “T” handle, you should see a tube for a dipstick to go in. Not my truck but I grabbed a picture off of the interweb for reference. Yours should be very similar. See arrow.

Sounds like your oil pressure switch has failed. There is no pressure transducer on these motors, the dash reading is a fake algorithm, so a simple switch failure will give you the indication you saw. It's extremely rare for these engines to have any oil pressure or oil related issues, but I would still verify your pressure before continuing.

The truck does have a dipstick, so I am not sure what your dealer is telling you. There is no electronic oil level sensor on these engines.

Funny enough I do have a vehicle without a dipstick, or ability to add one, and only an electronic sensor... still not sure how I feel about that.

The only engine that I know about in any Ram truck that does not have a dip stick is the new Hurricane I-6 gas engine an its only in the 1500 trucks and not the 2500... FYI both the Cummins 6.7l an the 6.4l Hemi in the 2500 trucks have oil dip stick so not sure why you cant find it...

Thanks for the replies. I completely overlooked the dipstick bug it’s definitely there. I’ve been frustrated with the issue with the other truck and a few nights before the radio went static but started working the next morning. So the fear of electrical gremlins was hitting me pretty hard and the dipstick being black instead of the traditional yellow caused me to completely look past it. Thanks for helping with my brain fart.

I’d still love to hear the explanation of the dealer claiming the truck didn’t have one, and it couldn’t be added even lol

The idiot most likely was thinking of the Hurricane I-6 gas engine that does not have a dip stick nor can one be installed and not the I-6 Cummins 6.7L diesel engine or I hope that's the excuse..

I had no idea that was the case with the hurricane.

That would be a problem for me. A significant one.

No dipstick.
No problem.
Love my Hurricane.
If you’ve never had the chance to drive one, especially one with the 3.92 axle, you should definitely take one for a spin IMG_2643.jpeg

Took me a minute to wrap my head around no dipstick on the 2.0L motor in my Sprinter, but the gauge works and it’s been fine so far. Great little diesel engine too…

I’ve heard good things all around.

However, I want a damn dip stick for engine oil. It’s just one of those things that I would really struggle to get past.

Not to jump on the dip stick band wagon but my wife just bought herself a 2025 Nissan Armada.

Think what you want about Nissan but that new 3.5 twin turbo V6 has a dip stick and a digital oil level monitor.
