Hey everyone, I’m a new dodge owner. Truck is a 2020 Ram 2500 diesel. Had 36,000 on it. Just bought it 3 weeks ago. Iv been noticing a weird click noise. Almost like a relay or solenoid switching on and off. It happens when I come to a complete stop, about 3-5 seconds after I hear the noise. It sounds like it’s coming from either the motor or by the transmission. I’m hoping it’s nothing. Been hearing it since I bought it. Any advice or information would be awesome !

Yeah I just called my brother in law and his does exact same thing. Thank you guys for info! I figured it was the return lines for fuel or something

Look in the owners manual its covered,

It is normal and as designed
Are you sure? Cause this happens when I am driving. Not after I shut off the truck. It’s whenever I come to a stop while driving and about 2-5 seconds later I hear it. It’s a “click… click” or even almost a “clunk…clunk” like a switch is being turned on and off

Most likely still the DEF system. From what I've heard, the injectors can be noisy.

Is it possible you're hearing the A/C compressor clutch?

Thats a mix of EGR, DEF systems nothing to worry about

I don’t believe so. It does it without the AC on. I thought my brother in laws truck did it but I was in it today and I didn’t hear it at all, could it be cause my def fluid is at half level? I wish I could explain it better but it comes from the passenger side. I almost thought it could be the brakes but it wouldn’t make sense due to it happening 2-5 seconds after coming to stop.

No that would not matter but you could be doing a regen at that point
Nah it’s not in regen mode I checked that. But hey if you guys think it’s just def/egr and you guys have the same noise then maybe I’ll just forget about it.

I also thought it could of been the brakes cause of how oddly the noise is. Almost like a relief of pressure or something type of click/clunk

And it only does it twice as well. Come to stop. Few seconds later. I hear “click click” and that’s it

I get that too sometimes it is the same sound with the truck off so its normal in my mind

Yeah I hope that’s what it is. So weird how it’s every time I stop though. Lol
I don’t believe what you are hearing is the def injector- that is more of a “tick-tick” not “click or clunk”. When you start your truck, and you step on the brake before you put the truck into gear, listen for the “click-click” that the BTSI solenoid makes that unlocks the shift lever. Is that the same sound you are hearing.

Yes it sounds just like that

Dealership called me just now saying it’s my steps I put on…. LMAO okay…. It did the noise before I added the steps. I told them it sounds like a solenoid or relay and to go check it again. Tech calls me “yeah I heard a relay earlier but didn’t think anything about it, let me dive into this more” ‍♂️
