howdy all...my local dealer is bringing in a 2019 3500 CCSB SRW for me with 40k miles to check out. I know there are complaints about the fuel pump, are they that bad... should i run lol, is there anything i should specifically look at or check out before possibly pulling the trigger, it's got the options i want and it's in my budget so i'd really like for it to be ok for many many years lol. Thanx in advance for your input!

There is a recall for the CP4 so it should get replaced when parts are available. Could it crap out and leave you stranded? Sure, it is possible.

Fuel pump is biggest concern, however there is a formal recall on them to replace with a 2021+ style unit.

So... no worries.. go check it out.

thank you both! is there an easy way to tell if the recall has been taken care of.... i'm assuming it affects all 19 and 20 models?

99.9% chance it has not been taken care of yet. FCA is still sourcing parts being how many vehicles it affects. The recall announcement is recent, in the last few months.

Some info above..

Its not the same as the 2021-22 but very close as the recalled trucks will be getting a CP3.3

It has a new name. You, nor anyone else, knows the actual differences yet from the 21+ pump (if any) other than physical outside appearance which is near identical.

its only about a 4% failure rate - you will be fine.

Only if the truck had a pump failure in probably the last 90 days would it already have the recall CP3.3 pump installed.

Have them run the VIN and show you any open recalls.

Things to check that have a high incidence of problems:

Body-cab alignment.
Cummins "squeak" - front idler pully/belt chipmunk. Mine mostly manifests itself when warm.
Seatbelts - retract and lock, especially rear.
Front main seal weeping oil
A/C TSB.

See if they can pull a WiTech scan and give you the report, there may be some outstanding TSB.

You might want to do a little research on TSBs:

Very true but there must be some difference if the name is changed

I'm pretty sure if your CP4.2 fails now, it will be replaced with the new recall pump CP3.3. There are a few posts about them here already, somewhere in HDRAMS.

If you can take it to a carwash and spray around the clerancr lights on the roof. Known to be a common area to leak water into the cab near the a-pillar and overhead console. Also the mirror aux lights and or turn signals known to retain moisture.
