2017 or 2018 UConnect 8.4 NAV in 2015 Ram 3500??

Hi all,

I have a 2015 Ram 3500 (Canadian Model) with the Uconnect 8.4 NAV.

A few things that bother me are that I cannot access the backup camera with a botton, like on the 2016 and up. There are also a few menus and tings I like better pn the 2016 and up.

My question is, is it a simple plug and play swap? Can I just get a 8.4 NAV out of a 2016, 2017 or 2018 truck and plug it in and everything works?

For the camera menu, would I need to configure that with AlphaOBD, or is that automatically available when the new UConnect starts up?

The 2018 UConnect 8.4 NAV has Androd Auto and Apple Carplay, can this be made functional in the 2015?

Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

Bump,

does anyone have any information on this topic? Really looking into doing this but would need some more info before purchasing any parts.

You can not just swap the head unit into the truck. It requires the radio be married up with the VIN number. I advise you look at the site below for more info.
I have a 2013 3500 that I wish supported Android Auto but need to swap the radio for a later year to do so...

It is possible but...

Thanks for the info. I saw they also offer the 8.4 Uconnect 5 swap for the 2013 to 2018 trucks. These units are pricey though, WOW.

THe price is the but...
I will continue to follow the thread. I would appreciate any info you get on third party radio swaps that support the integration of the cabin controls and backup cameras.

So it seems the Uconnect 5 will work with an adapter harness. This is the route I might go as I sourced a 8.4 Uconnect 5 with NAV for super cheap and like new. I heard that it might not work with my 2015 BCM though and I might need to upgrade the BCM to a newer one (2016 or 2017).

I also wanted to try and see if there is a way to add the surround view system from a 2019-2022 to the truck at the same time.

Maybe I'll document all of this swap in a thread for everyone, in case someone wants to try the same thing.

@Jimmy07
I saw your write up on putting an 8.4" UC 4C into your 4th Gen. I looked into this and although I would have to switch my 2015 BCM, I like being able to add surround view later.

I have a screen out of a 2022, that has the grey 8 pin instead of the black one. Other than the keying, they should be the same correct?

Since you are the Guru here, I want your opinion on this. If I go that far and want to add surround view eventually, would it make sense at this point to just go all in and do the 8.4" UC5 from a 2022? I know the wiring for the Radio Control Module are totally different, green. blue and purple connectors, but do you think this would work in my 2015 3500 if I update the BCM to a 2016 or 2017?
(do you have the pinouts and connector info for the radio controll module from a 2022?)

Also in the back, even on the 4C I noticed a 12 Pin black connector, what is this for? The Harman Kardon AMP? See attached pic, circled in red.

And regardless of which way I go, how do I get the radio programmed to my VIN? Can I do that with AlphaOBD?

Thanks!
