I've got this annoying rattle coming from way at the front of the dashboard when i put it in reverse, probably something in the engine bay rattling against the firewall. It's been there from the day i drove it home from the dealer. I brought it back to the dealership immediately, and they looked at it and the tech put down that the trans dipstick was rattling against the firewall, and he did something that did make it better for a week or so, but it came back. I brought it back again a 2nd time to have this looked at and have my retrofitted UAX radio firmware updated, but the dashcam footage shows that the techs were too annoyed that I changed the radio in the truck and were almost angry I was running a dash camera saying they were bullsh*t and he always unplugs them. So of course i got the truck back, and nothing was done, they said they tried to update the radio and couldn't because "the wiring was different", which is BS because i was able to update the radio myself once i got a hold of right firmware file from a different dealer... But i'm getting off topic.

They said they couldn't duplicate the rattle in the dash... So here's a video of it, anyone else have this problem? I start the video with the truck in reverse and the dash rattling, then i throw it in park for a second to make the rattle go away, then i put it back in reverse and the rattle comes back.

yup. I have that same rattle and have had, since a few weeks old. took it to a dealer that basically didn't want to try and track it down, per usual laziness. I haven't tried another dealer.

Glad to know i'm not alone, hopefully one of us will find a dealer to come up with a solution.

I'm not looking for another dealer lol don't have time for that crap. I've pulled the dash apart but nothing was loose or hanging. truck runs great otherwise and it only happens on cold start. I have zero faith in the dealer network or fca, that I can't r&r myself, so just living with it.

Hi @g00fy - I regret to hear of your experience working with your dealer and that your dealer did not dig in on this rattle. If you would be willing to get a second opinion from a different local dealer or work with yours again, I would be happy to escalate a case on your behalf so your dealer has additional support.

If for any reason you do ever work with your dealer @elephantrider, please do not hesitate to follow up with us via PM so we can ensure you have support for that process.

Well my truck is going on a combined 3 weeks at the dealer for this annoying buzz/rattle/vibration behind the dash. The first week absolutely nothing was done because the service write absolutely butchered the service ticket. I brought the truck in for 3 completely separate issues, a Metal on Metal pulley squeak on start up, this dash rattle by the windshield, and the defective cab mount rattle... Somehow the service writer i guess just took random words from the first two issues i explained to her, in more detail, and put them together into something resembling a sentence. So my ticket read i had 2 issues:

1. "Customer states Metal on Metal when starting car behind dash when in idle"

2. Rattle from rear of the cab when going over bumps.

Needless to say the tech couldn't find anything cause he didn't know what to look for... So my truck spent a whole week there while this tech tried to figure out what #1 meant.

When i picked the truck up and saw the ticket i asked to speak to the tech directly, and when i spoke to him I said hey, can i show you the problems I'm having since this ticket makes no sense, and he agreed to go out to the truck with me because he had no idea what he was supposed to be looking for.

Luckily i was able to duplicate both my pulley squeak and my Dashboard rattle for him so he said to schedule another appointment and he'd know right where to start.

So i did that, brought my truck back on a Sunday evening, dropped it off, Friday evening i got an update, the first tech is totally stumped with both of my issues, he experienced them both, but can't figure out where they're coming from to fix them, so they are escalating my truck to their in house diesel mechanic, he expects to have it knocked out by Monday evening.

It's now late morning Thursday, no word, so i call for an update, and apparently this rattle is proving extremely difficult to track down. I was told so far the tech has sank about 7 hours into trying to figure out where this buzz/rattle/vibration noise is coming from, and they'll call me back when they have more news.

I'm glad to hear they're finally actively working on my truck, and i know troubleshooting things like this can be extremely difficult, but I'm going on a combined 3 weeks w/o my truck, it's starting to drive me nuts not being able to do the chores i want to do that require the truck.

I'll post back when i have an update, hopefully, maybe, I'll get my truck back by this weekend and they'll be able to tell me what the cause of the vibration was, but i'm doubting it.

No updates yet... I wonder how many weeks the dealership will play with it themselves before they bring in an engineer from corporate to figure it out...

I got 3wks out of them before they raised the white flag of can not duplicate. I picked it up early morning and had the service adviser to sit in the truck for cold start. ...and what do ya know. ratte rattle rattle. he asked me to come in and make another appt. I laughed him out of the truck and have been living with it off and on since then.

Ya luckily I got them to hear it a couple weeks back, and they have told me on the phone that the techs can hear it, but they can't find it.

Maybe it is the illegal in the secret compartment, trying to get out?

It could be a nut in a cab compartment that a assembly worker dropped in there upon assembly. I've heard people joke about it. I have a couple friends that build race cars and have found nuts, washers, screw in cavities only accessible during assembly.

@RamCares how long before you guys send an engineer out to fix something?
Unfortunately we are unable to speculate on this inquiry from our level of customer care, please do not hesitate to send us a private message if you would be interested in a case for further support as you work with your dealer.

Just got my truck back, it seems they managed to take care of it. If you bring yours back to be fixed, this might help:

thanks for posting that. I saved that doc. I should be able to use that as a guide to try and chase it down.
