I have a 2020 Ram 3500 dually Longhorn. Since early on we have had the wifi active on the truck. We pull a 5th wheel and travel all over. We have encountered an issue where we will drive for a couple hours, and stop for fuel or a break. When we start up again the wifi will be unavailable. We have tried resetting by pulling fuses, tried the soft reset. talked to AT&T, with their troubleshooting guidance. nothing seemed to fix it. Went into dealer mode and found the 100 character(actually it's only27) Application version number. They said I needed a software update. Took it to the dealer and had it installed. things seemed to work but then towing season was over so no long trips to really test it. Last summer the same issue showed up and I was on the phone with AT&T again and she connected me with a very nice and knowledgeable guy at Uconnect. I explained the problem to him and expressed that I had been to the website and checked for updates, only to find that there were none for my VIN. He expressed that that site was not working for at least a year, so it was not accurate.
We went back to the application version number and he expressed there was an update available, PR-40.1. He said it must go to the dealer for this update. I made the appointment and they made an attempt, but said the radio would not accept the update so I needed a new radio. Reconditioned was $1200. YIKES! Well, I have extended warranty so it was $125 to me so go for it. Radio comes in and the dealer installs it. Wifi doesn't work. Call AT&T and find out , oh you changed the radio so the IMEI is different now so we have to register your info again. It will work in 48 hours. Sure enough, 36 hours later it's up and running. Great! Again end of season, so no long trip testing.
Out on trips this summer, and you guessed it, after a few hours the wifi quits whether you turn the truck off or not. So, I call AT&T and everything is fine with them and my account. Call Uconnect and go through all the steps and guess what. You need an update. I ask, how often are updates issued? Oh, every 8 moths to a year. Great!
Take it to the dealer. They plug in and say, "no update available". Call back to Uconnect several times. They say according to your VIN and the application version number, you need an update. We go back and forth several times and finally they get the message that it's a different radio so what does the VIN have to do with it? Oh, well you'll need the VIN that the new radio came out of. !@##$%^ WHAT! Craziness! I can give them the P/N and serial number of the radio but they can't go by that, they need the VIN number. CRAZINESS!!!!
So, here's my questions.
1. Any of you have this issue before?
2. Is the module that is the wifi hotspot in the radio or is it external to the radio? I'm thinking the module might be getting hot and failing after a period of time. If it's not in the radio, that would explain why the radio change didn't fix it.
I was hoping @Jimmy07 might be able to shed some light on this.

Oh, I also learned that if you don't follow the update procedure correctly you can brick the radio, so I suspect that's what happened on the radio change.

Thanks for any and all help.

the “router” overheats and it shuts down, No fix from Chrysler so we just turned off the service and used out hotspot in the camper. Works on 12v and the wifi range is more then strong enough for all those traveling in the truck.
