I had to use the brakes occasionally, but not what I would call excessively.
Maybe it is fine, but I can't stand the sound of the engine turning more than about 4,200rpm. At times, I would turn the cruise off when descending hills to keep the transmission from downshifting further than I wanted.
The little woman and I just got home yesterday from a 2,200 mile trip pulling our 24ft enclosed cargo trailer. We had our street bikes and a few other things in the trailer. Gross combined weight was 13,000lbs.
The trip was from southern Oregon to southern Utah and back. Very mountainous terrain...

It is a pretty basic trailer, but seems to be well built. It is an Interstate Victory.
Of course they use cheap off brand tires, and my only complaint so far is that they didn't even balance them. We could feel a little bit of vibration on the way home. I am going to pull the wheels...

That 6.4 pulled that trailer really well, but it did make me wish that I owned an oil well, and a refinery.
Would a diesel pull it more efficiently? Of course, but 90% of the miles on that pickup have been accumulated while driving around empty.
Well we headed out a couple of days ago from southern Oregon to southern Utah pulling the rv trailer that my daughter has dubbed "the barn door".
I weighed the pickup by itself with most of the stuff that we were going to pack in it, and myself in it. It was F4,040, and R3,300.

I picked up some 15w40 diesel motor oil to put in it for the trip. That should help it to pull like a Cummins.

One other thing. When I brought the trailer home from the dealership I had the truck in tow/haul mode. Even on flat ground it never got above 5th gear at 60mph. It seemed to me that it could have pulled 6th OK, but maybe not? I was thinking about trying it it in normal mode on the flats, as long...
Well I normally run them at 75, but I thought that some of the guys who do this trailering thing frequently might have some better numbers for me.

BTW, what air pressure do you guys figure would be appropriate for the pickup when towing a trailer of that size? Tongue weight will be around 1,600-1,700 I figure. And yeah, I have a fancy torsion weight distribution hitch.
