I find that one of these flexible funnels works great to direct all the oil out the front.

If you're willing to close your eyes when you open the box and put it on, the Ford Racing filter works great. I've been using it on my truck since new. Part Number: CM-6731-FL820
The positive side won't matter. For the negative, I suggest not going direct to the battery; you don't want to bypass the Battery Monitor on the negative post. There should be a short ground wire that goes to the body near the battery; use that post for your negative.

What if you used a stone or a fine file to sharpen the edge a little? You can make it grab the case better. I'd be afraid to try bending anything, but sometimes just a lil more bite is all it takes.
