Recently installed Nitto Ridge Grapplers, 35x12.5x17 on a 2026 Ram 3500 dually. Is there anything available to reprogram the TPS? Dodge service said they are unable to do it. Thanks

They are able to do it but they won’t. You’ll have to find a shop with a J-Scan to reprogram the On Board Computer. I have the same problem. I replaced my tires/wheels with aftermarket and get the best ride/wear at 55psi. However, the TPMS constantly tells me to inflate my tires to 60/65 psi. My tires are not rated for 65psi but will indeed hold the air. This is a major safety infraction on the part of the engineers who designed the system. I’ve reported it to the NHTSA but they’re not interested in enforcing automotive safety standards!! Never ever go by the vehicle manufacturers label placed somewhere on the vehicle unless you replace with same excate brand size and type tire. If you change size, brand or type you MUST use the tire manufacturer’s information as branded on the sidewall of the tire. They are the experts on their respective products not RAM!! Trust me! If you drive these trucks anywhere in West Virginia empty with 60/65 psi in the tires you Will go back to placing your hands at 10 O’ clock and 2 O’ clock on the steering wheel lest you be bounced into a ditch!!! Lol

Unless someone has cracked the security on 25MY+ (haven't seen that confirmed) the tools and dealers can only select PSIs that were pre programmed matching tire options that came stock. if your tires are outside that your stuck till that happens.

So this reprogramming is only for model years prior to 2025?

I’m just waiting for RAM to be sued because someone chose to install aftermarket tires that don’t meet the requirements of the programmed TPMS and they over inflate to 65psi and have a blowout that causes an accident where someone gets injured. I’ve had work mates that have died from massive head injury due to over inflating tires.

Ram won’t be sued for that (or if they were the case would be quickly dismissed) since they and every other manufacturer say to only replace tires with the same ones that came on the vehicle from the factory.

Also, the dealer cannot change the tire pressure settings. They don’t have a tool that can do so.

yes, pre 2025 are able to be changed by tools like J-Scan or alphaOBD. Someone will figure out the security on the new canbus eventually just hasn't happened yet that I've seen. There are threads on it with more detailed info.

Don't you just love how the manufacturers control what we can and cannot do with our $65K+ purchase?? When I first purchased I dropped the tire pressures to 55psi all the way around for a smoother ride and better tire wear. Had zero problems for 11 months. Since then and after the dealer inflating them to Manufacturers Recommendation I've had nothing but continued problems with the sensors constantly showing low pressure. At this point I just drive around with the stupid TP Warning lights on my dash.....

Of course they do, it’s mandated by law on anything below a class 3 truck that it has a system that warns the driver if pressure drops. If they made it so you could mess with it that would just increase warranty claims.

All I can say is blame the lawyers. They've sued the companies so much for BS that the companies are scared and covering their ass.
That's one of the reasons the tire pressure on the door is a joke. The recommended pressure on there is for a maxed out loaded truck. Who drives around with their load maxed out all the time?

Someone who understands my logic! Well stated Crusty! The reasoning behind the law suits and the TPMS doesn’t make sense. If the manufacturers were worried about getting sued why do they install engines and speedometers that exceed the mandated speed limit laws? This tells me if I have an accident doing 100 mph I have the right to sue the manufacturer because their product allowed me to exceed these legal limits…

It's probably been done already.

It's like the lady that spilled her HOT coffee in her lap and sued McD for a million and won.
Why are we rewarding stupid people?

Way off topic here: There’s definitely too much frivolous litigation, but the McDonalds coffee thing was legit. It was a 79 year old woman and they handed her a cup of coffee at 190°, 50-60° above what’s standard for serving coffee. She asked them only to cover her medical expenses but they completely ignored her so that’s when she brought the lawsuit.

But why would you put a cup of hot coffee in your lap?
Now we have warning signs on everything. Don't drink gasoline as you might die.

The lawsuit didn’t have anything to do with warning labels. That’s a myth that came up later.

Also, have you met people? There’s a warning label because someone did it!
