ANYONE ELSE HAVING MAJOR BATTERY ISSUES WITH THESE NEWER RAM TRUCKS???So in fairness, after the second appearance of this problem, I took the truck to the dealer and they noted there were about “30 battery related codes.” They fully charged the battery and sent me on my way. I have not had one issue since.
If the dealer had to fully charge your battery, that tells me your alternator isn't functioning properly. Isn't that what the alternator is for? To keep your battery charged? I'm on my third battery in my 2022 with 33K miles (should still be on my first battery). In Sept 23 truck wouldn't start without a jump start. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the battery with a new 3 year battery. I asked what caused the battery to die and they stated they had no way of identifying the cause. A couple days ago myself, my young daughter and my pup were stranded back in the woods on a trail. I called RAM Customer Service for assistance, too make a long story short (1.5 hours on the phone being transferred from one country to another and finally reaching an English speaking individual in Tucson AZ) I was told there is NOTHING RAM could do to assist me. Luckily I have Roadside Assistance with my Insurance Company.
The following day Dec 2025 I contacted the same dealership asking if the battery was under warranty or prorated. They stated it was under warranty and would be replace free of charge if it was found to be faulty. They would replace it with a 2 year or 3 year maintenance free battery. I ask about a 4-5 year maintenance free battery and was told that wasn't possible. What got me, was the fact the maintenance manager stated the battery would be put on a special test system that took 3-4 hours to complete. (2-3 hours???) I would also have to pay a diagnosis fee should the battery test OK.
$75-$125 diagnosis fee plus 80 mile RT to the dealer getting 10 miles to the gallon plus my 3-5 hours lost wages ($32 per hour) time made it simple to me to just have a local shop replace the battery. It cost me less than $180 to have a 4 year Maintenance Free AGM Platinum Battery installed.
My though process is one of three things are causing battery problems in the newer RAM trucks. Either RAM has purchased millions of potentially bad batteries that don't last more than a couple years OR these newer trucks have numerous electrical issues that cause the batteries to go bad OR the alternators installed are not keeping the battery fully charged. My guess is ELECTRICAL ISSUES!!!
