Hey all,
I’ve been trying to find the best info I can for this scenario but have kinda struck out. Don’t really want to rely on the dealer to tell me what I can/can’t do so maybe you can help.

We are planning to buy an RV. Me personally would prefer a 5th wheel but I think I’m very limited on what I can do. There are a few that have pin weight around 1500-1600 that would work great for us. My concern is I’ll be basically AT payload with that and our peoples.
Truck: 2022 Ram 2500 mega cab payload 2,655
People: 4 of us plus 2 dogs equaling about 800 lbs.

Question I have is, I doubt I’ll actually hit the axle rating on the truck but will be right at payload dry. And when I add stuff to the trailer I’ll likely be over. Anyone else had this situation? Am I stuck to travel trailers? Fine if I am as there are way more options that work there.
Thanks!

So, help me understand the GAWR vs GVWR. My axles are 5,500/6,390 which is 11,890. Does Ram (and the others) really leave almost 2,000 lbs of capability on the table just for registration? Is there something else that is limiting? I’d think you add the 2 together to get the “real” number wouldn’t you? TIA

They absolutely run reduced GVWR’s for registration reasons.

Like AH64 said, keep within the axle weight ratings and you’ll be fine.
