You're doing it wrong
Just did my install on the GDP heater its a nice setup install is easy would be even easier without the dual alternator as you have more room for tools if you have big paws like i do. I did not remove the factory heater just left it unused currently until i have time to remove it completely. I am deleted (kept the engine looking stock for roadside inspections) so it wont get any buildup on it. The new heater fits on the stock intake horn no issues and is basically the same as a factory 5.9 heater would be but a different housing. I would highly recommend it. Even though its a bit more money than the B/D kit the install is really easy and no need to open things up as far for the people who are not as mechanically inclined
Its currently only 0°C/32°F right now so I cant say how it performs in the extreme cold yet but with the design like the 5.9 I have no doubts it will preform perfectly
Update.
Just fired the truck up this morning at -30°C not plugged in just to see how the heater would preform and it was a flawless start.
