Putting a positive ownership experience up mixed w/ some sarcasm rather than the whining I see a lot of across the net.

2024 Cummins, Asian, 4.10’s, 3500 DWR, 4x4, limited slip, dual alternators, Laramie Plus.

I am a Hot Shot, high priority small machine, component, parts delivery.
Main area of operation is AZ, all of it.

Factoids:
(Weights, I have scale tickets not “what the sticker GVW says and that’s what I weigh..lol).
Truck tare weight w/ me in it, 153 ga fuel: 10,760 #.
Truck / trailer tare weight: 18,760 #.
W/ a 420 CAT backhoe as pictured I’m right at 40,000 # (I’m registered for 43,000 which will probably be upped when my new trailer arrives as it has bigger everything).
Replaced both batteries 3 “ish” months ago. Happened on a Sunday, I was scheduled for a 0’ dark thirty start the following Monday, batteries cost less than a day or 2 down while a so-called tech finds his brain.
On my 3rd set of tires. OEM’s made it 19,000 miles, barely. I did shorten there life getting unstuck at the Mexican border trying to find a clients site. Got talked into a set of BFG HD Pro’s next. What a POS.
They made it 23,000 miles. Changed tire vendor, now running these:

So far I am very pleased w/ the Toyo’s and to be honest I wish I would have started running these 255’s on my previous duallt as well just for the improved ride and no they DO NOT touch when loaded.

Services:
I perform my own services.
I use AMSOIL fluids / oil filter (not up for debate…lol).
I use Doc’s for F/F’s, A/F, Cabin filters, Trans (again not for debate, now 2 trucks, over 100,000 miles drama free and I can buy in bulk).
Oil change at 6,000 mi “ish”.
Every other oil change, 12,000 miles “ish”, fuel, air, cabin filters as well.
Trans, diffs, T case at 30,000 mi.
Shortest oil change interval was 14 days, 5500 miles.
Longest oil change interval was 30 days, 7100 miles (that one got away from me and business was great).
Still on OEM brakes, last inspection 2500 miles ago they are still at 50 % or so. It will get the full Powerstop treatment when it’s time.
I have gotten the service DEF messg once since I put it to work. It goes away shortly as it did before I put it in service, I’m not worried.
Any other observations (not complaints) I have such as iPhone not always automatically connecting or the rock hard seat are pretty silly (prior ‘16 F-350 had a similar list.. lol).
The truck does it’s intended task perfectly, period.

Fuel / DEF:
Uses about 2.5 - 3 ga DEF per 1,000 mi. I use whatever is at the pump.
Fuel, again whatever is at the pump at the truck stop I’m at (in AZ, since I’m registered at 43,000 I legally “get to” fuel at the truck pumps).
Avg mpg is 8.2, keep in mind the weight I play with and our terrain, believe it or not we have mountains..6 % is gravy, 10 % is no joke).

Power / transmission / engine brake:
Power, I have yet, weight for weight, grade for grade to have a Superduty out pull me. DMax isn’t even close. Same dropping off a grade. That being said, the engine brake has it “limits” you find when you’re grossing 40K and navigating Salt River Canyon and then El Capitian during the same run (see backhoe pic above) or dropping into Ray Mine which is 10 % for “miles” at 39,000 gross.. lol. Really could use 1st gear engine brake capability (RAM are you listening??). All that being said, current trailer is company owned, spec’d cheap w/ electric drum brakes on 12K axles. I ordered my own trailer (which is supposed to be here any day) and spec’d w/ electric / hydraulic disk brakes on 16K axles. (and air ride…). That should make navigating the grades a bit less “eventful “.
Transmission took a bit to figure out what makes it happy and it took a bit for it to “learn” my habits.
If someone else was to take this truck, they would go through the same experience. I have yet to see it get over 168°. I’m convinced some of the grief the Asians got was simply from consumers that didn’t understand its a work horse, not a refined slush box.

Idling:
It gets left running for a variety of reasons (avoid heat soak coolant and oil, gives me a cool place to retreat to during the hot months, keep up w/ electrical demand, avoid heat soaking the cab from a hot DPF and engine) but when idling it gets idled up.

Overall I am extremely pleased w/ my RAM and yes I would by another one w/ out question. It gets ran hard 5 - 6 days a week (NOT to be confused with beating on it). Start it up in the morning, it finally gets shut down many, many hours later when I get home. These trucks are built to work and that is where they are happy. My ‘05 Cummins lives to run (not anywhere near these weights..lol). My ‘16 F-350 was the same for the 75,000 mi I had it.

How long, how many miles until I get a new one?? Not sure and I am all over the place on this considering the mi I am piling on. I looked into trading into a ‘26 before Christmas, tempting but numbers are math and wasn’t excited about additional monthly cost no matter how good the trade and end numbers looked. We’ll revisit at 90,000 mi but will probably end up running it to 250,000 or beyond and keep it as a spare / personal use and buy a new one at that point… maybe.. lol.
