New Ram HDs in 2027 or 2028

Stop with the insults.
There is more than one thing on the fords that is objectively better than the rams. They are good trucks.

It’s just not worth the Powerstroke/10 speed headache that comes with it.

[mod: fixed quote]
When in the world did I say anything about the PS or 10 spd???? I said the driver's station was more comfortable. FFS

If it ain’t gotta Cummins, I don’t want it.
Maybe you should actually go buy a truck before you continue to laugh at owners for sharing their real world experiences. You seem to just be a fanboy troll at this point, except you don't even own one.

God forbid a different brand does 1 aspect better than ours...

But it’s not better… I can’t stand the Ford cabs. If the Ram cab were redesigned to be like the Ford cab that would be ridiculous IMO.

As it is I’d like to go back to a 3rd gen cab on a 4th gen 13/14+ frame/suspension. Maybe Ram will bring back the club cab option for the 28+ trucks.

Does partially owning and managing a fleet in the past count?

I have to ask; you seem to always be praising Ford over Ram. What about the Ram do you like the most? All 3 make awesome HD trucks, I lean toward Ram because of the Ram Boxes and the Mega Cab not to m mention Ram / Dodge are the only truck I have owned since 1960.

I honestly want them to keep the cab small. I'm waiting to get one and make it a long distance overlander. And on some trails the long trucks are unwieldy. The short length of the RAM HDs is perfect for a full size truck on the trail (I own an AEV Jeep 392 that I go off road with). Of course, you can make it work, but it just makes it easier to keep the length down. Some things I do think they need - a new PW model with diesel and more payload. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

The current Ram cabs aren’t “small” in measurement, and overall length and wheelbase are also comparable to the other two HD truck manufacturers. 2025 trucks are within 5” of each other in wheelbase for CCLB options.

I don’t understand where this conception that they are somehow vastly smaller has come from? The numbers don’t support this lol

The roofline, seat height, and overall interior design can make a vehicle feel more spacious or less spacious, but you're right, all of the cabs are very similar in overall dimensions. For reference, the 5th gen Ram 1500 (2019 - 2026) Crew Cabs are considered just as spacious as the Ram Mega Cabs, but some of that is because the 5th gen Ram has a flat floor, plus the rear seat folds up. The 5th gen Ram 1500 crew cabs seem more useful (practical) than the Mega Cab due to seat design and flat floor.

I'm wanting to buy a new Ram HD, but I'm waiting for the new cab configuration. Assuming the new cab/chassis will be released in 2028, I'm looking to buy in 2029 or 2030.

If you think this 15 year old cab is fine the way it is, you really need to go drive a new Ford stupid duty. The driver comfort is the best of the Big 3 2023-2026 bar none. It has a door built to hold your left arm. Telescoping wheel. Tons of knee room. Plenty of head room. Only thing it's missing is a right arm rest in the seat.

If they seriously don't come out with Gen 5 for 2027 MY, it will make me a lot happier I jumped right on the 25. I was between getting a 25 and waiting for an alleged new 27. But if they do wait till 28, then it'll make me wonder if Tim said something like "Let's hold off on the next generation release until we've actually tested it and worked the bugs out".

I agree with you that the steering wheel needs to have a telescope and tilt - does that require a new cab ? Not sure.

My experience with all of the trucks ( at the dealerships ) is that the entry door height in all of them is too short. Doesn't matter the brand.

I would like RAM to eliminate the sky light and really open up the ceiling height more. Is that a complete re-design ?

The display should provide access to all of the camera positions / locations, including underneath - no matter what I am doing as a driver. Is that a re-design or just a dumb decision on use ?

I would like to be able to get a black out edition exterior but the red color interior instead of pure black. Again - does not require a cab change.

At the same time, these trucks are so far ahead of the '95 Ford explorer that I have been driving that they all seem futuristic to me.

My guess the new 7.2l (or whatever it is) will be the new HO and our current 'refreshed' 6.7 will live as the standard or SO motor. Just my 2 cents. I doubt they'd put much effort to refresh the 6.7 for a single or two year run knowing the new 7.2 is coming.

The 7.2 is for a different market than pickup trucks, I don’t think you’ll see it in a ram.

What I meant is the overall length of the truck. Adding cab length will increase the length of the truck.

I work for a steering column manufacture that supplies to many Japanese auto companies as well as Ford. In my experience having a telescoping function to these HD trucks isn’t going to make the column move back any farther, just in further. It also just adds to more potential for rattles. How many of you actually move the column each time to enter/exit the truck? To me the memory seat and pedals makes more sense than the column telescoping.

Maybe, just maybe, the people who have an abundance of stomach fat are the ones who complain and would benefit from a telescopic steering wheel. The best solution for that would be to live a healthier life. Just a thought.

Ya, never understood the whole need for A telescoping steering column.
Pepole already complain of the higher cost of these rigs, now will just add more $$ to the cost. While some might think it's excellent for fit, the main downsides are added cost and another potential faliure point.
Earlier trucks never had these features and no one ever mentioned the need for such add-ons.

I’ve had 4 Rams and now 1 F-450. The Ford is actually a great truck but has its issues. Had a F-350 Tremor on order and backed out last second when it got to dealer. Something told me to hold out for 8 speed with Ram as I remember loving the Cummins / Ram but hated the trans/gearing, and said if they ever come out with a 8 speed I’d jump ship back to Ram. Well, I finally ordered a 26 hoping the gremlins are fixed with the new refresh.

The f-450 is an awesome truck. Turn radius, power (deleted), comfort of cab, etc. is outstanding. No complaints except for the 10 speed (and tired of a DRW setup thus going back to SRW). Replaced at 13k and still have issues. Shifts like crap and can’t stand the skip shifting at times. However, once on highway the truck is a beast towing 18k 40ft toy hauler. Having those 3 highway OD gears is awesome. Hope the 8 speed with basically 2 OD gears will yield similar results with better around town when not towing.

Yes - it would be nice to have the 1500 cab but will it ‘really’ make it better???? So many other areas are more important. For example, offer a larger fuel tank for Megacab, flat floor in rear seat area, full size sun roof, 8 ft bed with megacab, head up display, and lastly telescope steering. These are probably my wish list wants (but not needs).

I don’t need more HP/TQ. I’m sure the RAM will do just fine with the new 8 speed towing what I tow (no more than 20k trailers). Realiability and some better creature comforts and options to make me feel I got my 100k money worth. Spending this kind of coin it should be EXACTLY how you want it. No compromises.

I said it many many times that I did not like the 10 speed transmission in the Ford after putting several thousand miles on it.

I’m not a big fan of the 10 speed in the GM trucks either, as they constantly seem to be hunting for a gear.

I’m driving a pickup, not a medium duty dump truck.
