Rant warning....

2026 RAM LARAMIE 3500 MEGA CAB 4x4

It was suggested to me to contact RAM Customer Care in an attempt to get the Automatic-Leveling Rear Air Suspension Compressor and Control module replacements expedited as the first delivery estimate was 7 days. I called to schedule completion (hopefully) of this repair only to be told the parts are backordered with NO ETA.... The @RamCares Ram Customer service said they can do nothing because it was over 14 days since the truck was in the dealership. I pointed out the work is not done yet due to availability problems with the parts that were directed by RAM STAR case to be changed, the work order is still open.

Response was "I would like to inform you that it is past the 14 days window, here is what I can provide you.12/03/2025 12:25 AM GMTFERJOERN S You can reach out to the servicing dealership so that your vehicle can be diagnosed for the issues that you currently have" WHAT?????

It continues "Here's the plan, the reason why I need you to have the vehicle in the dealership is that we can have a case created for you.12/03/2025 12:28 AM GMTFERJOERN S and the thing is the last interaction you had with the dealership is passed over the 14 days period for case creation. FERJOERN S That is why I kindly ask of you to pay them a visit so that we can create a case for you."

My dealer is great, my diesel tech is great, RAM.... Not so much for support beyond point of sale it seems.

Customer Care says no help until the truck goes back to the dealer, another diagnosis for failures already identified, and then I can open the chat again and request help? 45 minutes one way, diagnosis, and 45 minutes back with a 3500 HD that vibrated very badly (I can only guess suspension chatter) with 4,000 lbs a half ton could pull. I would go out on a limb and tell yo I had safety concerns and even stopped in another dealer on my trip to have the wheels balanced to ensure it was not a tire wheel problem. I am no where near the capability of the HD with that trailer, I WILL NOT pull my heavy trailer and equipment until this is fixed.

Additionally the Power pedals did not work at time of delivery, they were not connected in the steering column and we found out on our trip the seatbelt warnings and passenger sensors do not operate, only the driver gets a warning and alarm when unhooked, front and rear passengers are not important it seems, NHTSA would like to hear that one I am sure.

Shout out to Bryden Motors in South Beloit, IL and my Servicing/Selling Dealer Landers McLarty of Huntsville, AL

@RamCares , get this parts availability fixed, I am only fortunate that I dont earn a living pulling heavy trailers, I would be bankrupt with my new 2026 HD.

RANT and RANDOM THOUGHTS COMPLETE!

You may resume your normally scheduled programming

That is normal operation for the passenger seat belt chime...has been since 2019 at least.

Even if you used your truck as its intended to tow - you will be fine doing so until the parts are in for the self level air. As the name suggests its just to level the trailer. If you have a DRW you definelty will be fine. I had the self level air suspension on my 2023 and I didn't see much difference vs my 2024 that doesn't have it.

I have never had issues with any of my Rams on the tires and wheels ....maybe have yours road forced balanced. I had 2 2024 chevy 3500 that had bad front wheel hub extensions that caused vibrations. I suspect your tires just need to be balanced or depending on how many miles you have, you may have some flat spots from delivery etc...

All manufactures have part availability issues across the board -

Appreciate the info, I have asked my salesman to check at least 2 new trucks to see if mine is acting different. I have had bad tires both Firestone and Michelin in the past. Wheels were out of balance but not out of round. I have asked him to also check the rear air system to see if the Alt Trailer and Bed lowering act as expected (moving) or if they too say they moved but did not. My previous RAM HD's did respond to the button push, this one is not. Technician was in contact with RAM and opened a STAR case to which he was instructed to change the parts due to no response from the system diagnostics via ODB/Laptop. I still await the update on parts for the CURRENT/OPEN work order that RAM Customer Service refused to look at because it was over 14 days since the truck was in the shop initially. My big point is the poor customer service attitude and the 14 days that makes no sense when the parts are ordered and work order is still open. I have had a lot of MOPARS in my life and most have been great, but when there is a problem, it needs to be fixed in a timely manner. @RamCares, can you help at all with expediting the parts? Do I really need to waste another 1.5 hour drive round trip and however long it takes to open yet another work order just to ask for help? My Dealer has always been awesome and do what needs to be done but they are held back as well until parts arrive.

The ALT Bed height will only activate with a load on the bed....there is a minimum weight you have to have before it lower the bed.

Hi, @MegaStro!

We definitely don't wish any continued frustration for you. Please send a private message our way with your customer care case number if you would like us to further review the above. Thank you!

So Saturday I went to the dealership and asked if we could look at 2 other 2026MY Ram 3500's, one was a DRW and one was a SRW. Neither of them lowered the bed or went to alt trailer height when the buttons were pushed. In addition, the only safety belt warning and alarm that operates is the driver's.

I asked the technician (who I trust) about it and he was surprised they did the same thing mine was doing. Either they changed or forgot something in the programing, they have a faulty batch of something, OR they designed it this way. My question is why have the buttons if they do not operate anything?

I will not post anymore on this until its figured out, the suspension is still pending replacement of the compressor / control module PER STAR guidance.

The 3500s will not lower the bed without weight in the bed, that’s the way it’s always been, 3500s are leaf with supplemental air bags, 2500s are air only and that’s why they will lower without weight in the bed, actually surprised the dealers don’t know this…..

OMG, you make too much sense! I never considered that it could not lower due to the leaf's. I am more surprised the STAR engineer did not catch that if thats true, my buddy had a 2024 DRW that did lower with the buttons though?

Yes, the Ram 3500 with available Auto-Level Rear Air Suspension has a "Bed Lowering Mode" (or Alternate Trailer Height) that lowers the truck's rear by about 1 to 2 inches for easier trailer hookups, working in conjunction with leaf springs to adjust ride height

How it works:
  • Air Suspension: The system uses airbags and leaf springs; the airbags inflate or deflate to adjust the truck's height.
  • Bed Lowering Mode: This feature drops the rear suspension to its lowest position (around 1-2 inches) for easy hookup, especially for fifth wheels or goosenecks.
  • Alternate Trailer Height (ATH): A separate mode that lowers the truck for level towing and automatically adjusts for changing loads.
  • Normal Operation: The truck returns to normal height, or even squats slightly, as the airbags react to the load.
Key Considerations:
  • Limited Drop: The factory system offers a modest drop (1-2 inches) for convenience, not for dramatically changing the truck's stance.
  • Springs Still Involved: Even with air suspension, strong leaf springs carry the load, so it won't drop like a fully deflated system.

Even if that were the case, it would stand to reason that with the 2026 models being somewhat different, that things could have changed.

Leafs are definitely gonna hold it up higher when empty, that’s for certain.

I am not - dealerships seem to have abandoned any sort of training for sales or service writers.

With no straight answer on weather the pump and control module will make a difference, the parts arrived today at the dealership. I guess we will see if it makes any difference, parts were only 6 weeks late. If it is true the system cannot lower any farther, I have more questions than answers. Like why the technician in the sky did not know this via the STAR? If they came back later and said its normal operation, why not say that clearly and cancel the parts? Its thier bill for repair and rental..... Happy New Year to everyone.

You're chasing your tail and causing unnecessary work for others for a non-existent problem. The 3500 bed lowering has always been hit or miss depending on truck config, bed weight, etc. When "empty" my 2020 lowers about 3/4" when my 5th wheel hitch is installed and with a full tank of fuel, but I also have a crossover box and lots of gear. Curb weight close to 9k. Others have reported from none to 1". Only the 2500 air sprung truck will provide any consistent lowering.

IMHO, Bed Lowering is really best used for the quickest way to lock out the air suspension for unhooking a trailer so the truck doesn't try to move/adjust while you're hooking/unhooking.

Brutal, nice to see you lurking! Hope you had a good Christmas and have a happy New Year. I agree whole heartedly after the early stages of this journey. I asked this question specifically a few times and no one is giving any answer besides the parts are here and we will replace them. I think its a waste of time and effort at this point, just cant believe its gotten this far..

On my 2023 DRW that had the OEM air Suspension I never used the bed lowering - never had a need with any gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer. If you cant get a trailer on the truck at factory height you have other issues really. Need more blocks under your landing gear etc....

I absolutely love it on my 3/4 ton.

I haven’t had to jack up a heavy gooseneck since I got the truck. Run the feet down until they have decent ground pressure, dump the bags, and drive off! Love it.

Are you saying you get 4" of drop? You need at least that to clear the ball I would think. My 5ver is Hydraulics landing gear - but even my 14K dump trailer isn't that heavy to crank on LOL

I can’t say I have measured how much the drop is, but yes, I get enough drop to clear my turnover ball without having to jack the trailer up at all.

Easily one of my favorite features on the truck. My GN jacks like ****.
