Hi-
I am in the process of buying a 2024 2500 6.4L tradesman. I’m working with a broker, and both of the trucks he’s shown me have a subtle sound coming from the steering column. I wouldn’t describe it as a grinding sound, but more like something is stretching or rubbing. There is no friction or anything with the steering wheel, it feels normal, and steers correctly. I can hear the sound when parked and just cranking the wheel around, in addition to when driving. Wondering if anyone has experienced this in their 2024 rams. I drove a 2023 3500 for a while and didn’t notice anything like this.

The fact that both of these brand new trucks have this leads me to believe it could be a production issue .
Thanks for any help!

Just bought a $83,000 2024 Ram 1500 Limited DT. Steering column constantly, noticeably clicks when turning. Has anyone gotten this successfully resolved?
This is the 7th new Ram Limited I have purchased in the last 25 years and it’s always something.

When I back out of my parking space in the morning, I get a click or something. Then it's gone. Lets me know I'm alive

You’ll have better luck on a LD forum since they use different components than the HD’s.

Any luck figuring out what the problem was? I'm having that same issue. It was very faint when I bought the truck. 3 months in and the noise is very noticeable now

I've got this also. It's feels like the sound a urethane bushing makes when it's "squeaking" Mine does it on suspension movement, the more it moves the more I can feel it .

I have this on my 24 since day one... sounds like plastic on plastic rubbing. I don't feel it when turning the wheel. It doesn't bother me enough to bring it in. If I had other issues to bring it to the dealer I would point this out as well.

I have the same squeaking on my new 2024. It's very subtle and can barely hear it when turning the steering wheel. I'll live with it for now, but if it gets worse I'll have the dealer take a look.

Has anybody considered that this rubbing noise (which I also have on my 24 2500 at slow speeds) is actually adaptive steering doing it's thing?

Went out and checked for any strange noises and did not hear any.
22 cummins with adaptive stearing turning 37's.

'26 2500 Rebel with 300 miles doing the exact same thing (squeaking). Read elsewhere that it could be the clockspring and/or the steering shaft passing through the firewall. Did anyone ever get an answer from the dealer on this?

I have a 2026 ram rebel GT, same thing happening here since new! 350 miles on it so far, and I have been living with it. It’s like a little crinkle noise when turning the steering wheel left or right. Hard to explain like a slight plastic on plastic noise turning and then when releasing the steering wheel going back. It doesn’t bother me much so I will have it looked at at the next service. I would like some information as to why this is happening if anyone knows.

Video of the noise for those that might have similar.

I encountered the same noise about 2 weeks after purchasing my 2024 2500. Turns out it was the back of the steering wheel coming into contact with plastic steering column/shifter cover. Easy to diagnose and fix. Push the plastic cover away from the steering wheel while turning the wheel. If the sound stops, that’s the issue.
