Here is what we came up with, safety wire twisted inside a brake line. It seems to work, however since finally being about to finally put it back on, the truck thinks the tailgate is still open.
Smashing my brand new tailgate is the gift that keeps on giving.
I am working with a friend to make a permanent solution, once it is don't I'll share the pictures.
Side note, I did in fact fry the latches as well. SMH
Just so I understand, the driver side is a push (up) to release and the passenger side is pull to release?
The reason I ask is the technician said the passenger side was a lot more difficult to release.
Now I just need to make sure I didn't fry the latches.
So, does this mean this latch is only on 2024s?
If some want to look, I'd like to know what everyone learns.
Meanwhile, both my friend and current dealership has this reference come up with my VIN...
Update:
For a moment the dealership thought I had some kind of "aftermarket" latch and asked me if I changed them or if it was in an accident. Told him no, he was on my side and believed me.
He said it's not wiring they've even seen before with that heat shrink.
He also told me they worked...
Thank you for the link, unfortunately ours is a 2024 and those latches are no longer on the newer trucks.
Even had a friend in Missouri who's a Parts Manager for a Ram dealer, and the info he sent me isn't tracking with the VIN and what's coming up on his end.
Dropping it off evening at a...
Thank you.
Here's the real kick in the balls, our 3500 has kissed our horse trailer twice and I mean kissed, both times it required paint-less dent removal. Our tailgate are tissue paper thin! I've been wanting a flatbed for it ever since, just haven't pulled the trigger, had this latest...
The access panel is off, and there is no longer a manual latch release.
There's two additional wires on the 2024 that's not on years prior truck tailgates, and on the 2024 there's two 20 or 22 gauge wires going to the latches.
Update...
Went to the nearest dealership, and they had no idea how to release the gate. Called the dealership that I bought it from and it appeared this was the first they're hearing of not being able to manually release the 2024+ tail gates.
Worked with a friend and connected 12VDC to every...
Long story short, I damaged my 2024 2500 tailgate, picked up the damaged and newly painted tailgate from the body shop last night. My thought process was to just put the tailgate on without plugging all the wires back into it, since as soon as I got home the new tailgate will be going on after...
