I saw this thread pop up in the "what I missed" email.... but maybe somebody can enlighten me what's wrong with the stock engine tunes for towing?
I've been towing 13.2k over the past weekend and I don't see any problems with my '22 ???
Hi, long time Toyota owner here. My experience before owning a pickup was 2 freightliner FLD120s & my current freightliner Cascadia125. I swore I'd never buy a pickup and got around all of my maintenance needs on my trucks with a Toyota previa minivan.
Well that died & my son needed a pickup...
Thanks freebird for the input; I have a funny towing story where I learned the hard way that lower octane fuel results in significantly less timing. Empty it's hard to notice, but pulling a load it's night & day... that one time is in the top 5 list of times I've never been more mad at myself...
Also... Could you please explain the "noticeable increase in power" ??
From what I know: Fuel + Air = explosion. (More) Fuel + (More) Air = (Bigger) explosion.
The O2 sensors will keep the amount of fuel & Air going into the cylinder at a set amount, controlled precisely by the ecm. Since E0...
I used No-ethanol gas in a '88 carbed motor I could manually tune and never saw any difference on the dyno or in mpg... Never spending a dime for watered down gasoline ever again, but that's my $.02.
I'm curious what your highway mpg is without off-roading? What was the Octane rating of your...
Hmm... I find that hard to believe. The old 5.9L magnum 2nd gen I had would run at 30% even when towing 8k...
I'll play around then I guess. I know both of my 2005 2UZ-FE's & the old J35 can run about 40%, but both power gains and the added fuel stability run out around 30%, so I don't bother...
Ha, that's even better then; you have 93. Why don't you guys try running 93 instead of 89?
I learned the hard way that anything less than the best makes towing a horrific experience on a gas motor. After that, I don't even think about it at the pump regardless if I'm towing or putting around...
Anyone here know the % ethanol content you can run on the stock fuel system before it leans out past where the injector pwm's run out of bandwidth, & throw a CEL?
So far I only ran a 15% blend on the highway, but I expect the limit is closer to 40%
Anyone try more than 15% in their 6.4L?
I recently bought a '22 6.4 & even though the dealer told me they "the required oil into it", I still dumped it out & changed it in a parking lot before the road trip home. Yes, I went to the dealership with the required 7 quarts of PUP SRT 0w-40 oil in my bag... lol
I sent a sample of that bad...
