The last 6.4 I had was a ‘18 so it had the 6 speed trans. I pull a 35’ 5th wheel camper. My overall mileage average pulling was about 6.5 MPG. I pulled at 60 MPH. The truck would slow to 45 MPH at best going up 6% grades, and the coolant would rise to 230*. Unloaded the truck averaged 13 MPG. I drive no more that 5 MPH above the speed limit. I am retired and am in no hurry any more, I get there when I get there. I am happy to be rid of that truck.

That's understandable. I was shocked how much of a difference the 8sp makes. I test drove a 6.4/6sp in the early teens, I drove it back to the lot and bought a cummins without driving it

8sp makes it a whole different truck. Hopefully you cummins guys can get it as well soon

Anyone with a Hemi 4x4 2500 Laramie or Limited CCLB? Please post your payload, trying to get a feel for the payload of the higher trims vs the Big Horn. Thinking they're typically in the 2800-3000lb range, depending on options but would like some confirmation.

I found this on the Ram website for a truck on a dealer lot.

You are correct, options kill it quickly. 2670 for mine.

Probably wrong thread but had to run out to western NE to look at a job yesterday and decided to take personal truck just to see what a longer empty trip would do.
Trip out was roughly 120 miles of 2 lane, cruise set at 69, hilly drive - no mountains but hilly for North central Nebraska - then 122 miles westbound I-80 which is mostly flat but a steady climb in elevation the whole way. Return trip was exact same trip in reverse. Rest of miles were in towns, a couple drive thru's for food and a little time on a job site.
Reset trip odometer when I left gas station in home town, put in 10.0 gallons on the way home and filled up at same station in home town about 2 miles after last picture. Hand calculated over the entire 538 miles was 16.6. Not going to complain about this at all.

I think I need to stop pushing the long skinny pedal...I have never averaged over 16.0!!
238 miles from Eaton Twp, Ohio to Chesaning, MI into a stiff wind pulling a 10K equipment trailer carrying a Yamaha Rhino and I had to stop for gas before I got there (averaging about 9.2 on the lie-o-meter)

With just over 1300 miles on the odometer I’m averaging 14 empty (measured, EVIC says 15.3) and just did 300 miles with my 3000lb camper in the bed averaging 10.9 (EVIC said 11.9). Our camping trip was up in the mountains so lots of long grades. Very happy with the fuel economy numbers.

I have the 2019 RAM 2500 6.4L HEMI 8-speed Tradesman with 3.73. Picking up my 5th wheel trailer tomorrow that is 12,500 LBS... wondering how the truck will handle.

She will do it just fine. Might be single digit mpgs but you should’ve known that going in.

i have a 2020 2500HD Tradesman CCSB 6.4L 8 speed with 3.73, just turned 13k on the odometer, avg 16 empty, pulling my 10k 5th wheel from W. Virginia to northern Illinois, i was getting 7 in WV and KY, got up to 9.5 across Indy. defiantly not complaining. got about the same with the 2019 1500 i had, but night and day difference in the way it handles the weight.

My ‘19 6.4L did an ok job towing our 11,500lb 5th wheel. Long or steep hills weren’t the best as you would expect, but it got it done. Average mpg was 6-7.

Most likely going to go over payload, 20% is recommended pin weight on a 5er. Thats about 2700 lbs for your trailer. That's just the dry weight too.

By no means would I suggest hitching a 53' lowboy hauler to your Cummins equipped 2500 with half ton payload capacity but man do people get hung up on numbers. Sorry, had to let that out.

But but the numbers! That’s why you gotta bring your mini digital scale on your trip so everybody can weigh their lunch before they eat it each stop. Don’t forget to weigh the mini digital scale, too!

I'm not suggesting getting hung up on numbers, just being aware. To each their own, I understand axle ratings and payload potentially being derated for regs. When my kids are in the vehicle, I'll always pay attention to the numbers though.

If something happened, no matter if it's logical or not, I'd never forgive myself.
