So, as we wait on the new 4.5 Gen, I figured I would show the numbers for the 4th Gen.
I am going to start with just the 2500 trucks and we will see were that goes.
Ok, 2018 max payload is 3990 and max towing is 17980.
Now, as I have grown weary trying to explain this in the 1500 world of truck owners...you can not have max payload and max towing on the same truck. You also can not have maximum payload and still have maximum towing. You will have one or the other. Max payload will take away from your trailer because you need tongue weight in there and it subtracts from GCWR. And if you are at max trailer the tongue weight takes away from your GVWR thus decreasing payload.
So, max payload. You have to have a Regular cab 4x2 with the 6.4l Hemi. It has a GVWR of 10000 lbs. Either axle ratio gets you this.
And max trailer, you have to have a Regular cab 4x2 with the 6.7l Cummins and AUTOMATIC transmission It has a GCWR of 25300.
All Cummins trucks will have a GVWR of 10000lbs as do the 6.4l Hemi trucks. The 5.7l Hemi only gets 9000.
Note: that the numbers for CNG trucks and Canadian trucks are different
Now GCWR will change with engine and rear gear ratio.
5.7l HEMI...3.73 is 18300
4.10 is 20300
6.4l HEMI...3.73 is 19800
4.10 is 22800
Cummins...3.42 is 24300 with 6speed manual
3.42 is 25300 with 6speed auto.
Those are the numbers and each trim will have a different actual number with each option.
That's our starting point
