Wait inline like everyone else?Anybody have any suggestions on how I can get my recall done on my 2020 ram 3500 HO Aisin? I've been waiting for months and I'm on a wait list at 2 dealers in Phoenix? Any suggestions/recommendations appreciated.
Bet the dealer gets it fixed faster now that they own the truck. They'll screw some other person out of the pump kit that was ordered for their truck and fix your old truck so they can sell it quickly...it's all about the money.Just joined the forum to start sharing my Cp4 fiasco.
2020 RAM 2500 Tradesman, purchased Oct, 2020. 39,160 miles. Was on the waitlist at the local dealer for the pump for the last 5 months.
I use my truck as a primary vehicle, most of my work days are from home, but on weekends we show livestock across the state. On Friday, we were headed up to Prescott, AZ with a 30 ft gooseneck livestock/living quarters trailer lightly loaded with a handful of show goats (yes, it's a thing). About 20 miles out of Prescott the truck sputtered, died and became a "dead stick" after coming off a light. Restart attempts had the truck turning over like a madman, but no ignition. 100% road diagnosed as a fuel delivery issue.
I have the MOPAR extended warranty, and called roadside. After 15 minutes of me yelling at the automated prompts, i finally got a real person. The agent heard me out, put me on hold for an extended period of time, and came back to say "good news, the truck and trailer tow is covered, we are dispatching a tow - but we cannot move live animals for liability purposes" Hung up with her after getting the tow confirmation, and tracked down someone to move the goats for me (off the side of a busy highway). Then the 60 min wait for the tow service began.
10 mins before the tow was set to show up, got a call from the driver that he was a few miles out, and wanted details of how I was oriented in the road. I told him about the truck and trailer, he stopped me and said "Trailer?? we dont have a work order for a trailer" After talking to his dispatch, the company had no method to move my trailer - back to Roadside we went
More hold time, more automated systems to yell at, and a supervisor later, I THOUGHT I had another tow set up. BUT I was informed that the trailer tow is NOT actually covered. Worried what that cost would be out of pocket, I got back on the phone and found an acquaintance in the business that would come get the trailer for a 12-pack. Called Roadside back (again) just to let them know that the trailer won't be part of the tow, in the hope of avoiding any additional charges. The tow time estimate was over an hour.
With a few minutes left in the hour, I called the number for the tow company, and found out that they were ANOTHER 1.5 hours out. Through phone calls, and back and forth, we found out that the "supervisor" on roadside cancelled out the tow all-together when I called back about the trailer, then set it back up a few minutes later. HOWEVER, during that gap the tow company got a different call, in the opposite direction - so i had to wait. All in all, 5.5 hours from breakdown, to drop-off at a service center.
Fast forward to the morning, and some Uber rides later, I was at the service counter trying to find out what the plan was. Shortening the story here, all evidence was pointing to the fuel pump, and the immediate quote was 60-90 days "easy" (found out later, 7 months was reality).
With everything on the table, the situation forced me to make decision - continue to pay for a truck that is waiting for repairs, and is unusable, while stranding my trailer in Prescott and/or begging someone to move it back home for me (and trying to figure out what to use for a daily), or buy a new truck on the spot. The dealer (York, in Prescott) offered me a fair trade for the busted truck (7k less than I paid for it 22 months ago), and happened to have a 2500 bighorn on the lot (literally, the ONLY new HD truck in Prescott). We made a "deal" (horrid time to buy a vehicle, no one will budge on price) and I drove a new one off the lot.
As an aside, there was extra cost for me as the new truck did not have the tow prep group. I was able to find a B&W flip over at a trailer place in town for $670, and York installed it for me at no cost. Still agitating as I had the same hitch in the old truck, that I paid out of pocket for as well.
Here I am, a couple of days later still fuming. No real complaints about the new truck, or the deal (I figure I am the one that signed the deal, so on me if I didnt like it). Don't love the fact that the new truck does not have the power folding mirrors, and that I am on the ultra-crappy stock tires (and not looking forward to putting up more cash to fix these things)
I have a call into FCA, and waiting for a specialist call back. I am asking they cover the cost of the power mirror install, and possibly the hitch. I'll be luck to get a keychain.
Question for you all - what would you have done?

Id be 1/2 inclined to do the same…Makes a guy feel like burning them to the ground when she takes a dump.
The worst ones maybe but they are all “bad” lolNFN, I haven’t seen many failures lately, it seemed months ago a new one was failing each day. maybe the bad ones have already taken a dump.
This is true, but I am somewhat thankful I got the callback from the dealer cancelling my appointment way early on. I most likely would of been the dealers first to complete. There wasn’t much data on how the completed recall ran, and with the programming issues like constant regen and other quirks, maybe by the time the 19 tune will be released it will be closer to perfect? The worst ones maybe but they are all “bad” lol
Perhaps but i doubt it they just seem to make it work with no refining but hey in 2024-25 they may start doing the 19s after the backlog of 20s are finished….This is true, but I am somewhat thankful I got the callback from the dealer cancelling my appointment way early on. I am in the process of getting the new pump installed at the dealer.I'll throw my 2 cents into this since I'm part of the CP4 club.
I purchased the Truck as my first new vehicle in over 30 years, and it was my 45th birthday present (or shall I say, the down payment was the gift from the wife - she let me spend my own saved money) - I acquired my RAM in August of 2020. I LOVE my Truck; I needed it for business since we operate a race team and build Mopar Race cars (the company is called ReadyChassis). I'm a diehard Mopar fan, and when I had the means and the ability to acquire a new RAM Dually to tow my trailer(s) around the country, my pick was a brand new 2020 RAM 3500 Dually Cummins HO Sport. Its the best vehicle I've ever owned, and I've only had one recall since ownership (the Lug recall)
So here is the story. I filled up with a diesel tank on the morning of August 27th, and about an hour away (on side roads near my race shop), the Truck started to sputter and then died. Luckily, I wasn't towing and wasn't far from my property. I called FCA for the tow, and they took 4 hours to get me a truck, and when they did, it wasn't large enough (they sent my vehicle with a flatbed - the irony). Anyway, I was lucky as I was a mile from my shop. I decided to grab my other Truck and get it home.
On August 30th, I called for another tow, and they sent the wrong Truck AGAIN. But, an hour later, a full-size HS flatbed showed up, and they took it away. The dealership I requested is the one nearest to my shop, which is Castle Jeep Dodge in Naperville,
One week passes by, and my phone calls go unanswered. The Truck is on their lot, right where the Truck dropped it. So I stopped in on Saturday, September 3rd, to speak with a Human being. They were waiting for their diesel mechanic to get a chance to look at it. On September 9th, I got a phone call that it was a CP4 failure, and they are waiting on the parts.
I was able to get the parts that they are using in the repair; if any of you are/may be interested:
CP4 Failure replacement:
- CSRLY-782AA - Fuel Kit (retails for $1,225) (IN STOCK, BUT ALLOCATED TO DEALERS FIRST)
- CSRLY-781AA - Module Kit (retails for $468) (OUT OF STOCK - This is the recall part if you don't have a pump failure)
- 68231617AF - Fuel Tank Replacement
Mopar told me that dealerships could only order the recall-based parts once every seven days (so they don't exhaust supply). I called my buddies over at Mopar Parts distribution, and they noted that it should NOT take longer than five days to get an OEM part if that part is "stocked".
When a vehicle gets the recall, the part they are replacing is the Module Kit. When your Truck is towed in because of the failure, they replace all three parts listed because of potential contamination of the fuel system.
At the date of this writing, the CSRLY-782A is being restocked at distribution centers on September 30th (2022)
From what I can tell, the Fuel kit is the part hanging up the supply chain. They've given me a rental car and said they have yet to determine how long it will take. Thankfully racing season is over, and the rental car has no mileage limit - so in my case, I can be more patient than most of us. But my 45' gooseneck isn't going anywhere for the rest of this season...
Keep you posted on where it goes from here. As of this writing, I've not had my Truck for almost a month.
I am in the process of getting the new pump installed at the dealer.
Truck is deleted and tuned. I told them not to flash the ECU.
They said it is the first one for them and cannot guarantee it would be 100% .
In looking at replacement kits, it says no tuning is required.
Question, has anyone had experience replacing the pump without re-flashing the ECU?
Thanks
I will update this after getting the truck back (hopefully today, they have had it for a full day now, after being pre-scheduled for 60days...)
Well their ecm flash is irrelevant as you would be flashing the delete tune and overwriting the dealer flash anyway. My tuner told me to try and tell the dealer to not flash it as its just one less thing i have to do when i pick the truck up afterI am in the process of getting the new pump installed at the dealer.
