Payload 5th wheel question

I tried searching but couldn’t find an answer. My father in law ordered a 2500 Laramie 4x4 gasser but he got tired of waiting for it to come in so he bought another truck so I’m going to buy it. He ordered the 5th wheel prep package and the 20k 5th wheel hitch. I will most likely never use the 5th wheel on this truck but that’s not my question. When I look up the VIN it lists the max payload as 2696lbs. Does that take into account the 5th wheel hitch ordered with the truck? When the hitch is not in the truck (I never plan on using it) does my payload effectively go up however much the hitch weights? Or is that number calculated without the hitch? TIA

I would imagine it includes it. The only way to be sure is see what the payload sticker on the truck says and subtract the weight of the hitch from it. Can’t be more than a 50-100 pound difference when you take into account the coupler and hitch bracket under the truck

That is what I was hoping. Curt makes the hitch and they list the shipping weight as over 200lbs. Maybe the hitch itself weights 150lbs or so. It would be nice to have that extra payload capacity.

You could always weigh the truck.

GVWR-curb weight = true payload.

You would also then know your axle weights.

FWIW, my Curt A-25 puck hitch weights 168lbs. While the Q-20 has a lighter stamped steel core, it has a different head. Curt lists the shipping weight difference between these two heads at 6lbs with the Q-20 on top. They all use the same puck legs and lower crossbar. Maybe the shipping material for the Q weighs more. In the end, they're probably within a few pounds of each other.

My understanding is that anything ordered with the truck is included in payload calculation

I don’t know why I didn’t think to just go weigh the truck. That way I know for sure.

I would have to agree with this as my incoming 3500DRW has a payload of 4847lbs. It seems a bit low for a DRW truck however I ordered the 5th wheel prep, the 30K hitch, steps, spray in bed liner and other various options. I looked at the payload of DRW's without the hitch and they are roughly 200lbs higher.
