Lifter Failure? Report it here!

So, are people having success with the Hamilton flat tappet conversion? My worry is doing the conversion and still having an oiling issue.

I agree but that doesn’t explain the lack of oiling at the rocker assembly. Also note shot roles down hill. If the rockers are struggling to get oil wouldn’t the lifters as well. Hydraulic lifter without the hydraulics.
It appears that the lifters get oil from the main oil rifle which is right next to them, each set of rockers gets their own feed from the same main rifle. The pictures are from a isb 6.7, but should be more or less the same for the cgi blocks

So is it a pressure issue, I feel like the trunnions shouldnt show wear at 10k miles.

Is the black nitride/parkerized finish just wore off? I can’t tell by your pics if the finish wore off and the metal is showing below or there is scoring. The part that hasn’t wore off doesn’t appear to have a mirror smooth finish that’s why I’m asking.

I miss spoke, it’s Nitride not DLC. I ran my finger nail across it no scoring yet. Just paranoid because of the way the stock trunnions looked at 80k.

Ok those pics tell a different story I see scoring esp on the pushrods. Have you spoken to Manton?

Argh! Edit:
Those are your old setup.

If can’t catch edges with your nails the coating may of wore off and I think that’s to be expected. May still be worth it to contact manton.

I will give it a shot. I’m just trying to get some longevity out of my truck. Seems like I keep finding stuff. Wonder if anyone makes a bigger oil pump to push more oil at idle. Just super paranoid at this point.thinking of doing conversion, but wouldn’t be worth it if there wasn’t enough oil getting to them.

So manton said that the they polishing on their pushrod is normal. Shows good oiling and that the 2 metals are happy Waiting to hear back on the trunnions

Joining you poor souls. I’m at week 7 at the dealer getting a new top end. They claim it’s the scissor gear on the cam that’s failed. I’m not sure I buy that. Same operating characteristics outlined in this thread - ‘23 SO, 31K miles, 15% idle time on the clock, OCI at every 7,500 with Valv PB 5w40, ticks at or above 1300 RPM unloaded. Climate accommodates 10w30, so I guess I’ll go to T6 post repair and see what I see. I don’t have photos of the lifters (dealer said they appeared normal with no damage), but I did want to post the cam and see if y’all could glean anything from it that I might have missed?123_1.jpeg123_1.jpeg

You have video of the particular noise it was making?

Looking at those photos it looks like there is a lubrication concern, low pressure or poor oil quality.
I also listened to the videos and my interpretation would be a rattle rather than a tick, also why is the noise louder/more noticeable on the turbo side?
Only my observation, I am a rookie in this business.

So after 8 weeks of just absolute nonsense, got the truck back yesterday with new lifters, cam, rods and rockers. Guess what? Still rattles… Only around 1100-1300 RPM, and only when unloaded like @kfscoll - I think I’ll drive it a while and stop looking for a ghost. Runs great, feels great, pulls great, just rattles like a baby toy at high idle unloaded.

Mine does something similar, I just figured it was fuel injectors or def injectors you could hear since the engine seems to smooth out a little at higher rpm. Mine runs fine.

Hopefully once the oil gets some hours on it it will quiet down. Mine is finally whisper quiet after about a thousand miles. Running hotshots tends to be thinner.
