So, are people having success with the Hamilton flat tappet conversion? My worry is doing the conversion and still having an oiling issue.
It appears that the lifters get oil from the main oil rifle which is right next to them, each set of rockers gets their own feed from the same main rifle. The pictures are from a isb 6.7, but should be more or less the same for the cgi blocksI agree but that doesn’t explain the lack of oiling at the rocker assembly. Also note shot roles down hill. If the rockers are struggling to get oil wouldn’t the lifters as well. Hydraulic lifter without the hydraulics.
Is the black nitride/parkerized finish just wore off? I can’t tell by your pics if the finish wore off and the metal is showing below or there is scoring. The part that hasn’t wore off doesn’t appear to have a mirror smooth finish that’s why I’m asking. So is it a pressure issue, I feel like the trunnions shouldnt show wear at 10k miles.
Ok those pics tell a different story I see scoring esp on the pushrods. Have you spoken to Manton?I miss spoke, it’s Nitride not DLC. I ran my finger nail across it no scoring yet. Just paranoid because of the way the stock trunnions looked at 80k.
You have video of the particular noise it was making?Joining you poor souls. I’m at week 7 at the dealer getting a new top end. They claim it’s the scissor gear on the cam that’s failed. I’m not sure I buy that. Same operating characteristics outlined in this thread - ‘23 SO, 31K miles, 15% idle time on the clock, OCI at every 7,500 with Valv PB 5w40, ticks at or above 1300 RPM unloaded. Climate accommodates 10w30, so I guess I’ll go to T6 post repair and see what I see. I don’t have photos of the lifters (dealer said they appeared normal with no damage), but I did want to post the cam and see if y’all could glean anything from it that I might have missed?View attachment 78592View attachment 78593
I don’t, but these two are very close, particularly the first (just slightly louder for me):You have video of the particular noise it was making?
Mine does something similar, I just figured it was fuel injectors or def injectors you could hear since the engine seems to smooth out a little at higher rpm. Mine runs fine.So after 8 weeks of just absolute nonsense, got the truck back yesterday with new lifters, cam, rods and rockers. Guess what? Still rattles… Only around 1100-1300 RPM, and only when unloaded like @kfscoll - I think I’ll drive it a while and stop looking for a ghost. Runs great, feels great, pulls great, just rattles like a baby toy at high idle unloaded.
Trying to track your progress here...was this after putting 5w-40 in after having 10w30 and the only change you made? Or have other things been done to your truck?Hopefully once the oil gets some hours on it it will quiet down. Mine is finally whisper quiet after about a thousand miles. Running hotshots tends to be thinner.
Did you by chance run it with cover off and mark the rods to see if they were rotating?Honestly oil didn’t matter when it was warm. Both 5w-40 and 10w-30 amsoil and hotshot pao. Newer oil at operating temperature it ticks. Once I got about a 1k miles no tick. I have replaced pushrods and had to order new rockers cause of how bad the rocker cups got.
Just did headstuds and took a peek at the valve train. Everything looks good. One pushrod end looked like it was wearing funny.
