HO 6.7 vs Regular 6.7 Performance

I currently have a 2016 Ram 2500 Laramie with the 6.7. Is there a noticeable difference in performance (acceleration, torque) in the HO in the 3500 vs the standard in the 2500? I will be ordering a new truck in the coming weeks. 80% of the trailers I pull are 16-20 ft equipment trailers with tractors. I do have a 16k trailer that I pull every few months.

No one really knows yet. Except the guys making commercials and the few Ram employees who drove them.
That said, with the torque management that these trucks have you probably are not going to notice the difference until you exceed the GCWR of the regular Cummins and get well into the GCWR ratings of the HO. The Transmission difference will definitely be noticeable though.

16 k is getting real close to the limit of the 2500 though.

I doubt it will be a seat of the pants experience though...you would have to work the truck.

This is something I am curious about too...especially seeing the difference in the BGE performance this go around.

I would be spec'ing out a dually right now if they had not gone to the CP4 high pressure pump:mad:

True, but when I bought my '05 3500 SRW there was very little price difference between 2500 and 3500 SRW. Of course they were both leaf springs then.

I was just using your post to make sure the OP understood as he was saying about 2500, but now as I look back he did say it that way

Is there no chance they updated/upgraded that pump.

I won't be buying a Cummins again for other reasons, but this is interesting to know.

I thought I read somewhere that the CP4 they were putting in the 2019s had been upgraded to fix the issues. I hope so.

Nobody has proved any improvements, to my knowledge. Plus, the fundamental design means a CP4 pump failure sends debris through, and ruins the whole system downstream, where a CP3 failure did none of that. I welcome someone trustworthy to show concrete evidence that all of this has been rectified. Ford apparently sells a kit to put a CP3 on a Powerstroke. Why would that be if the CP4 can be improved? Too many question marks right now.
