Did a search and a couple of def topics came back but didn't see anything on the topic of amount of usage. Is the 6.7 calibrated so they all use the same amount regardless or would it be based on driving variables? My new to me 2020 2500 that I have driven for 2150 miles has used 2.5 gallons. Just curious.

Based on exhaust temps. The 19+ use lots of DEF yours sounds like it is right on par with most if not a little bit better on DEF than mine was before deleting.

That’s a better DEF mpg than I averaged on my 2022.

Did you fill it with a pump when you bought it and then top it off again with a pump?

2-3% DEF to diesel is fairly normal on Gen 4.5’s, which means the more diesel you burn the more DEF you use.

I’ve been keeping track of DEF usage for the past 53k miles on my 2022. Average of 540 mpg for DEF at the moment. My usage is about 40 percent towing. Higher DEF usage goes along with higher fuel consumption with towing. You’re at 840 mpg, which seems pretty good.

No I didn't, dealer had it full at time of delivery gauge showed full. (They most likely used a pump of sorts). Dash gauge was at 1/2 , TSC had 2.5 gallon jugs at a good price so picked a couple of those up, poured it in straight from the jug and could hear the gurgles getting closer. Gauge reads full again.

AH64ID: curious, that would be a standard calibration for all 6.7's

Over time you’ll get a rough idea of consumption with that method, but if you want to be more accurate use a pump.

The DEF level sender and gauge doesn’t work the same way as the fuel tank and “full” can be up to the top 20% of the tank.

19-24 SO’s have the potential to use a little more DEF empty than HO’s due to the increased compression, but 2-3% is fairly standard for Gen 4.5. The gen 4’s used less DEF, but maybe not now after the DEF recall.

My 21 has 24k miles and averages a little over 500 mgp with 60% towing. I add a 2.5 gallon jug when my gauge hits about 1/4. If filling with jugs, be careful not to overfill or that will cause issues due to the tank sensor not being able to get a valid reading.

I just drove 4544 miles, I use between 7.25-7.50 gallons of Def, of those miles less than 200 were city driving, several fuel stops in KS & CO the diesel fuel was B20 :( with Loves being the highest priced diesel fuel on my whole trip Maverick had some of the lowest prices except 2 times where Wally was cheaper....

Loves stations in Michigan have the most expensive fuel always.

Every Loves I passed in OR, ID, MT, SD, KS, IA, UT and CO had diesel prices between 30 and 85 cents per gallon higher then anyone else, its another reason why I hated to buy from them and the one time I did was because I passed the Maverick station that had lower prices, the low priced station was 38 miles behind me

I don't get it. Even another truck stop at the same interchange will be a lot cheaper. A LOT cheaper. Not only Loves, but Flying J and Pilot seen to subscribe to the same business model. I try to use Gas Buddy before I hit the road for the day.

its the truck stop tax. I have no clue as to why they charge more, but every, single, truck stop i have ever seen charges anywhere between 30cents to a 1$ more a gallon.

There is a small rutters gas station near me, off the main path. but be cause they have diesel/def pumps on site they charge 45 cents more then the diesel a block down the street.

only reason ill suffer a truck stop is when i have the toy hauler on me and im 65ft long and dont feel like navigating a sheetz or wawa parking lot

Stopped in Franklin, KY a while back. The ONE9 Travel Center Truck stop was over 30 cents cheaper than the Pilot across the street. Didn't make sense to me. This morning, the difference is 34 cents. I usually fuel up at truck stops since I am normally pulling my fifth wheel when I need fuel.

I saw my first One9 truck stop on the way back home from my vacation, being I had a choice of that or Maverick I chose Maverick being I had never heard or seen One9 before that day and had no idea of there fuel quality an Maverick was a few cents cheaper....

That's is really good DEF usage... I don't get that good with my HO DRW.

But I suspect that with more HP vs the SO you use more DEF.

With the higher compression ratio the SO will naturally generate more NOx, which requires requires more DEF or EGR… hopefully DEF. The HO can make more peak boost, but the compression ratio is lower so that’s a variable that needs to be taken into account for overall cylinder pressure too.
