Why would you say that?
I'm not looking for your sympathy or am I complaining. I just stated a fact that if you have a new truck,, repairs appear to cost more for the same job.
Actually, what you stated most sensationally was, "
Dealer Screws New Truck Owners."
Do you know what the cost for those materials and labor are?
Fact is, the new trucks are a little harder to change the oil filter, so it's not the same job as the 08. My 04 was much easier to change the oil than the 20.
Dealers may also charge more based on the model year as their liability risk is higher if they break it.
$175 for a full service oil change on a modern diesel is not unrealistic, out of line, or "screwing" the customer. In fact, based on a little research, it would appear to be a good deal. They probably checked/filled your fluids and tires and gave it the old 'safety check."
T4 15W-40 they likely put in your 08 is less expensive than either T5 or T6 10W-30. The filter is $28 MSRP.
My last DIY oil change was $90 oil (could be as low as $75) and the Fleetguard filter $20 (avg cost incl shipping from Genos). That's $110 cost, about average.
We've seen folks quoted upwards of $400 for oil only $800 with fuel filters. THAT'S an unscrupulous dealer worth complaining about.
The average cost for a Dodge Ram 2500 Oil Change is between $179 and $203. Labor costs are estimated between $31 and $39 while parts are priced between $148 and $164. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location. Related repairs may also be needed.
