Alfaobd Hill Descent.

what does hill decent do? If the truck is already in 4wd Low, all you have to do is put the truck in 1st gear. Does it do something else?

I plan on doing this. Just curious how well the hill descent works. Seems like an inexpensive upgrade. I guess if I don't care for it I am not out much money and I will have a cool new button on the dash.
I’m going to try it also. It’s not too expensive and might be a cool upgrade.

That one works for 2019-2021, as do pretty much all other parts.

I suppose it should be mentioned for others coming across these part numbers- It matters if the truck is diesel or gas, because the hemi cluster includes the dial shifter for the transmission. The one for the diesel, like brutal needs, is WAY cheaper than the one needed for the Hemi.

Is it possible to move over to electronic shifting on a diesel with the 68rfe? Would like to move to the knob vs the column shifter.

That's a real good question. I have been wondering why the Cummins still get the archaic column shifter.

Hopefully the "Tech Swami" will weigh in on this one because "Inquiring minds want to know"!

I hope that I don't get sued for using that line..... Come to think of it I should be ok because I used an I instead of an E.

Poking around seems it's cause they still use a shifter cable.

Well Farts,

I installed the hill descent 4x4 panel today and can't get it to activate. AlfaOBD options are set to yes, I even toggled them and no joy.

4-LO, stopped or crawling, It responds to the button press, flashes something about using the +/- wheel buttons to control speed, then shows Hill Descent System Unavailable.

I fear this is another feature that can't be enabled/used on the 3500/3500 air suspension (can't be optioned for off road) trucks.

@Jimmy07 Any ideas?

It is not an option that's available for 3500. Knew that going in.

Starting to seem like any off-road options enabling on a 3500 is not working, suspected to be due to the truck type code.

That said, I'm seeing reports on other forums, including Jeep, that the truck needs to be on a steep descent for it to activate. Hmmm

Hmmm,

Seeing some recent chatter on 5thgenrams about 21 1500 trucks needing a TSB flash. Obviously I can't go to a dealer and ask for a 1500 TCM flash. LOL.

So until I can hit a steep hill, or someone with a 19 or 21 3500 truck tries it, I don't know if we'll truly know the issue.

There's also a thread on another forum about 2018 2500 trucks with factory off-road speed controls not working that was fixed with a related TSB flash. "The cruise control recall, U61, also apparently has a fix embedded in for the HDC issue that all 2018 models are experiencing."

RAM needs a pre-flight QC checklist, sure seems they miss a lot of things that should work but don't, Kinda like the gear display in the instrument cluster that's called out in the OM but doesn't work unless you use AlfaOBD to enable it.

I also have added the feature to my 2017 after the fact. I’m not sure if it’s normal on factory equipped trucks, but I do get the same unavailable message until the conditions are correct. I’ve only used it once just to test, but it did work when, seemingly, the hill I tested on was steep enough.

Thanks Jimmy, that's promising info.
