Color Preference (Night Edition) and Rambox

Yes it is a Limited 2500, I assume this is the sticker you want? From reading on these forums I now realize this is the 2nd worst payload for a 2500 next to the power wagon. I admittedly didn't realize this until after I bought the truck, which is kinda crazy because I research things to death. I just figured big diesel truck, I can tow most anything. I'm glad I am more informed though, and I think I will still be ok for my setup. I went to the scales and my trailer is 10,200 lbs, but my tongue weight was over 1600 which if I understand it correctly calculates into the payload. So my goal is to get that down to around 1200, which then gives me roughly 500 lbs for me and my gear which should be enough. Hopefully everything works out ok.
That Limited Mega with Rambox really eats into payload. I was looking at ordering a 2500 spec'd the same but decided against it due to under 2k payload. With your 1660 lbs payload on the 2500 confirms my choice of the 3500 version as my truck is almost exactly the same but has 3700 lbs of payload.

Be aware that the payload number takes into account 2 passengers at 150 pounds each and a full tank of gas. So you don't need to subtract that from your payload numbers.

Del Red is my favorite for me it was the only color I wanted. Window tint is 20% side window and back. I went over the factory ones as well with 20%. The Limited was also the only way I want to go as well.

Agree with Del Red, Night Edition, and have since 2017... Just traded up yesterday.

Ram boxes on the new one. I think I’m going to like them.

I don’t believe this. Fuel, yes. Passengers, no.

I believe it is as the truck is delivered. No passengers and a full tank of fuel. But, if you’re really that close to your payload number, then you didn’t buy enough truck.

Do you have an official source where you found that detail?

From all documentation I can find all that is included is the full tank of gas, no passengers.

This.

Payload is GVWR minus curb weight. Should be a pretty simple calculation.

This I agree with. Best bet for accuracy would be to load the truck up with people and gear and head to the scales, then take GVWR - Weight. So if I weigh in at 8500, GVWR is 10000, my payload is 1500. That would be the max left for any additional gear and/or tongue weight of a trailer. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of that.

Ok, you guys started me questioning what I have been told by the dealer. So I started researching and below is the best I could come up with. I don't think it really answers the question but I plan on following up with Ram Care to see if I can get a definitive answer.

SAE J2807 requires the vehicle manufacturer to use a vehicle equipped with the popular options found on at least 33 percent of the vehicles sold for that model; they also must run the test procedures with the equivalent of a 150-pound driver and passenger. The truck is hitched in a specific manner to a trailer that meets SAE specs and puts the tow vehicle (the pickup truck) at its maximum gross combined weight rating, meaning the combined weight of the pickup, its maximum payload, full fuel tank and the weight of the trailer.

It will be fine. The 10k is essentially BS. As an example, check your axle ratings. They will certainly be higher than 10k combined. we have the same engine and tranny as the 3500, leaf springs do reduce ride quality but don‘t magically boost GVRW by 20%.

the 12k gvwr GMC gives their trucks is the one area Ram keeps missing the ball. And its just paperwork.

oh and as you prob already know, don’t lighten the tongue weight too much... 15% or around 1500 is best.

SAE J2807 is about towing, not payload.

This sounds right but has me thinking about unsprung weight’s role. Using a scale would mean your payload goes down if your wheel/tire size goes up... but I’m not sure it should. Should it? I don’t mean from a “legal” perspective pre se but rather how your suspension or engine feels about the load. And as I think out loud, does this mean lighter wheels/tires means more paylaoad?

similarly, when folks say axle limits, do the mean the weight placed on the axle (sprung) or the weight through the axle, intro the tires and on the ground/scale?

Im in the process of turning my Delmonico Red 2500 into a night edition. Best looking model as far as I’m concerned. I have the wheels and I’ve done the badges. Just have to do the step bars and the mirrors. Probably not going to replace the grill.

Picked this beauty up 3 days ago. I was also looking at a Laramie 2500 Mega cab. The payload was the deciding factor and this one has 5720 lbs of payload.

WHOA!!! That's a beauty.

Better hire a permanent car washer though!
