Price negotiated from MSRP

Differing opinions are a good thing. Without it, life would be very mundane, wouldn’t it?

IMHO it doesn't really bother me to put down money for a custom order, due to it being configured the way "I" want it... Cause let's all be honest if it were so easy to find my exact truck when I'm ready to pull the trigger no one would ever order... It's not so easy and that's why we are here. BUT I do think it is nonsense for nonrefundable deposits. All deposits should be refundable by default with signed agreements stating conditions of forfeit...ie "oh I changed my mind" or "I found a better deal over here".
If you agreed to a deal, stand tall.

Bringing lease deposits into the discussion is just muddying the waters further, I don't really think it's close to being the same as dealers requiring a deposit on a factory order.

As far as I can tell, people getting the best deals grabbed one off the dealer lot. That's not to say people haven't gotten good deals on orders, only that the ones with the highest discounts always seem to be those vehicles that dealers have had sitting around. Sometimes, those are even special orders that they didn't require a non-refundable deposit for and the deal fell through! :)

Ordering vehicles is a science, the dealers know which options sell and which options they can include on vehicles to slightly raise their margins but without the customers walking away. When you get into special orders, it throws all those calculations out the window and let's face it - if they had what you wanted, you wouldn't be special ordering. Or if what they had was close enough to what you wanted, you wouldn't be special ordering. That means what you want to order is either rare or its outside their plain jane basic ordering calcs.

I'm split on how I feel about putting down a non-refundable deposit. On one hand, I don't feel like it should be necessary, on the other hand, I can see why it is and if I'm 100% sure I'm buying the vehicle - why not? If I'm not 100% sure, maybe the dealer does deserve insurance against that 5% or so gamble.

The dealer I was trying to make a deal with wanted $500. deposit.
No free floor mats, so the check sits on my desk.

I'm amazed by this. I could almost understand them balking on a deal worth $18k over floor mats, but at this price point???
I'm hep. I dont get it either. Perhaps I should call them back and ask if they have come to their senses yet?

Don't call them. If they want to sell it to you they will call you.
Never be afraid to walk away.

Yeah I know. Only thing is, they are located less than two miles from where I live. The next dealer is 65 miles to the south or 90 miles to the north. The build comes the way I want the truck optioned out.

You just need to see if the deal is worth the extra drive. Your time, your miles, fuel, warranty issues moving forward. etc etc.

I hear ya. They are probably aware of that also.

I purchased my 2020 Ram Laramie on 12/30 as follows:
$64,455 MSRP
$57,314 Before Rebates
$53,814 After Rebates
+$3,165 7Yr Unlimited Mopar Max Care (Dealer Matched Zeigler+$50)
$60,781 Total Drive out Price with taxes and warranty

This was a challenging spec combo that I was lucky enough to find relatively close. I live in Houston, but drove to Austin and negotiated for about a week, but almost went to Denver to purchase. It was still in transit so they couldn't sell it during that process. Arrived on the lot 12/29. Power running boards, spray-in liner, and bed cover are the options I'm planning to add. I want to thank all the participants of this thread for providing varying opinions and insights into the buying process. I'm not saying I got the best deal ever, but without this thread, and you all willing to voice your thoughts....there is no doubt I would have spent more $$$.

Just add another add on and then tell them you’ll settle for the mats. LOL!

Congratulations, beautiful truck.
Looks like you did quite well with rebates...
Myself and I assume others on here would like to know which rebates you were able to get.

Just an idea, but is anyone prepared to place an order in the next few days? May be a bit of a long shot, but if 3 or 4 of us (or more) offer to order, possibly on the same day, I would think that would be appealing to certain dealers. Just an idea, so reach out to me, I'd be glad to do the initial contacts in attempting to find an interested dealer. I'm in the panhandle of FL but willing to go anywhere for the best deal. Let me know.

I’m ready to order a 2500 Tradesman with the Power Wagon package. Can you recommend dealers that will ship to Southern California?

Dennis Dillon and Dave Smith are on my list to contact.

One thing that might help is the Tread Lightly program. Jeep dudes always use it to get 1% under invoice pricing.

Koon's is doing 6% under invoice.
I see they have a 2500 MC Limited listed for 12% under MSRP.

MSRP = $86525
Advertised price = $76,116

2021 2500 Limited Mega Cab

But the fine print...
